What if the Supercharger option was enabled on every Tesla Model S (as from 2012), and also will be on all future Tesla models?
Meaning that those 2,500 Tesla Roadsters (2008-2012) would have been the only Tesla vehicles that would not be able to charge at the Supercharger stations.
And Tesla Motors would never have offered a Tesla Model S with the 40 kWh battery pack in the first place.
First of all it would mean that the base price of a Tesla Model S and of all future Tesla models would be $2,000 higher. For that reason it could be that a very small number of people who already have bought a Tesla Model S with a 60 kWh battery pack and without the Supercharger option possibly might not have been able to finance their Tesla Model S. And those who were able to finance the extra $2,000 would surely have paid it (most of them), I think.
Actually about 90% of all Tesla Model S buyers already have chosen either the 85 kWh battery pack or have the Supercharger option enabled with a 60 kWh battery pack.
The Tesla Model S 70D already has Supercharger standard enabled. And that is a good thing.
Looking into the future it means that every buyer of a Tesla vehicle will end up paying those extra $2,000. Every 1,000 Tesla vehicles would mean an additional amount of 2 million $s. And that is good also because that means that there will be more money coming in to finance the expansion of the Supercharger network. The result will be that the expansion of the Supercharger network will be more rapid and more dense. Wouldn't that be nice?
