Automatically stopping at lights and signs would be a very significant update, not a sneak peak IMO.

Tesla can't release "beta" versions of stopping at lights. It's too big a liability.

That's my concern also. In the city, things happen more quickly than on the highway, even though you're moving more slowly. You have less time to take over from the car. But if the car just said "Red light ahead. Start braking now," that could be a "sneak peek." They could warn you that the car will not stop on its own and you still need to stop the car, but this could show how well the car would have done had it been making the decision to stop. And there would be data about how many false positives and false negatives the car made.

And if it can run on 2.0 and 2.5 and cars without EAP or FSD, it would also serve to nudge people into buying FSD by showing them how accurate it is.

I could imagine a sneak preview where the system detects a red light and asks you to confirm or deny before it executes a stop. Perhaps with a light tap of the brake or accelerator. It seems like that might be safe.

I've seen people post about pushing the "Advanced" Software Update Preference button 4 times and the update starts. My MX Raven was running 2019.40.2.1, so I figured why not push it 4 times and see what happens. It instantly started downloading 2019.40.2.4. Wonder if this is the update Elon was talking about?

Were the update notes changed from 40.2.1?

Something I noticed when driving on NoA last night was that when ending an NoA route it no longer says Navigate on Autopilot ending in X Ft. And instead says "Destination in X Ft." I think this is a strong hint at City NoA. Or at least the UI being geared for it. That is on 40.2.1

Thanks for sharing. I had not noticed that change.

If Tesla has FSD software that is good enough for a coast to coast FSD drive, then why only activate it for a few days and then turn it off afterwards? Why not just release it for good?

Yeah. I don't think the sneak preview will be a limited-time full-on FSD. I think that suggestion was offered as a joke. Of course, if they had real FSD they could offer it to EAP cars for free for a week or a day, the way they offered EAP on a trial basis a while back, as a teaser to get people to pay for it. There's a long tradition of free trials. I expect that when the time comes, they'll do this for cars that have the needed hardware. But that's some years away.

No it is not good enough for anything except as amusement, but others will disagree. Tesla doesn't want videos posted of the many failures. Making it available for a limited time would reduce that embarrassment.

I am prepared that the sneak peek is just a free trial of FSD for those that don't have it.

Except that as it stands today, "FSD" has nothing that EAP does not have. So they'd actually be giving a free trial of what I and other EAP purchasers already have. It's not really a "sneak peek" to give a free trial of a set of features that EAP and FSD buyers already have.

A free trial of long-existing features is not a sneak peek. To be a sneak peek it has to be something new. But a sneak peek can be just a peek. As in, a new video.

My new guess: With the car in Park, you can run a video showing you what the screen would show on a drive in FSD.
