For me, it happens when I finish charging with the J1772 adapter.

I tell it to unlock the charging port so I can remove the whole thing, cable and adapter, and it locks right back. Barely gives me a chance to unplug. It should remain unlocked for more than 1 second.

If I remove the cable first without removing the J1772 adaptor, the charging door tries to close on its own and then won’t let me remove the adapter. So it’s stuck and the door will not return on its own to the open position. The car thinks the door is closed, but the J1772 adapter is still stuck in the charging port. So I have to tell it to open the charging door multiple times. It won’t do it on first try. Once it opens, I have to quickly remove the adapter or else it will try close again.

If it can’t close the door because something is in the way, it should automatically open the door again. I’m afraid the charging door mechanism can get damaged by this. But the car is not smart enough to detect this problem.

But you can easily avoid this problem. I charge with the J1772 adapter at home, and the way to unhook it is, with the car unlocked or phone key connected, press and release the button on the handle, then remove it. The key is to release the button, otherwise you'll remove just the J1772 and leave the adapter in the port, which leads to the door closing on the adapter.

Great! I’m sure there are ways to avoid the problem. The point is the car should not get the adapter stuck with the door. I’m not sure if they can fix this with a software update.

What I’m going to try next time is to tell the car to stop charging, and then try to remove the whole thing.

I’m talking about public J1772 chargers, by the way.

All the settings the car now ignores when I enabled the FSD Beta. It slows for every light even through I disabled this feature in AP, makes speed based lane changes which again, I disabled in AP. And the big one: the car changes speed every time it sees a Speed Limit sign!

When using regular AP, my wipers always wipe three times when I pass in front of a casino on the way to work at 0610. Didn't do this the first 20 months I owned the car. Thanks for that software update Tesla!

Phantom braking is something that should happen to non-Teslas as well until there’s better AI on the car computers and better resolution on what the sensors and cameras see. My old Prius would do phantom braking too.

All the Autopilot and FSD issues are expected since the intelligence is not there yet. But yes, running a red light, or making illegal turns, now your asking the car to have knowledge of the local traffic laws and that’s something that will not be resolved for years to come. I presume the information from Google Maps if incorrect may lead the car to do the wrong thing.

I would suggest taking a look at this thread, specifically, taking a look at the videos in post #5.

Thank you. I saw the thread and the videos. The issue I have is that the car gives me just about 1 second to remove the whole piece or else it locks the port again and resumes charging. So what I want to try is to press Stop Charging command which I presume would unlock the port as well and then I can remove the connector and adapter at the same time. Not sure how that will go but we’ll see.

When I charge at work on our paid J1772 station, when I go to remove the charging wand, I pull out my phone, select "stop charging" if its charging, then (while standing next to the wand) select unlock charge port, and pull the entire thing out. Have never had a problem in 4 years of doing this various times at my job.

Phantom brake for shadows and oncoming traffic around corners on a two-lane road.
Phantom braking is better (fewer incidents) than when I first bought the car, but it's still frequent enough that I want to hover over the accelerator pedal while TACC/Autosteer is active.

This is an unsafe practice, as you should hover over the brake instead while using any sort of cruise control..

It happens far less frequently on my wife's ICE (2022 Chevy Equinox) than my M3P.

The main difference is when a phantom braking incident does occur, the ICEr takes forever to pick up the MPH that got scrubbed off.

J1772 should signal to the car to stop charging and unlock charge port when you press the release button on the handle. Never had a problem with any public chargers I’ve used. I don’t touch the car menu or app. Just press the release handle and pull it out (making sure to pull the adapter out together with the handle). 🤷🏻‍♂️
