If you are picking up your car, it most likely will be on current firmware. If not, it'll be one down. When I picked up my car it already had the update available, but I wasn't going to update the car on the spot because they have to keep you moving.

Not true. Mine was several updates behind and was built to order.

I believe the latest is 2018.36.2. You can see the version on the main page of your phone app or hitting the T button at the top of the screen in your car.

You can hit the Tesla button in the middle on top to see your firmware version along with your mileage etc.

Tesla Firmware Upgrade Tracker Web App Usually shows the latest software very quickly after release but also how widespread of a distribution is happening so you may get a sense of whether to expect the latest release or if it just a test release.

One other comment for OP...don't feel like you absolutely have to be on the "latest" firmware. It's not like an iPhone where everyone updates to the same version of code at the same time. It is perfectly normal for different Teslas (even the same model with identical configurations) to be on different software versions.
