So I was cleaning puke out of the rear door speaker grill - so I though it better just to pop the grill off. I was surprised to find the end of a wiring harness protruding between the speaker and grill. Anybody know what this is for? Sound does come out of the speaker.

first, no, I don't know what it is for, sorry... that being said, from personal experience, tesla is known to leave extra connectors, underneath each seat is a free connector tucked in the wiring.... I had purchased led strips to light up the foot well and in the installation video, it points out the extra ones under the seats so led strips can go under the seats facing the rear foot area... also in a dashcam install video I saw one under the plastic area on the roof where the windshield meets the roof by the rear view mirror.... there is a free connector inside there.... so, I'm gonna say you've located another free connection.
here is one under the seat.
