I think the Samsung T5 is fairly inexpensive now. I would just stick with the tried and true method of what a lot of people say works.
You can install our site as a web app on your iOS device by utilizing the Add to Home Screen feature in Safari. Please see this thread for more details on this.

Basically red dot means actively watching and capturing video from cameras and it has the ability to save video to USB. It does not save to USB always, that would wear out USB drive. It is capturing video to RAM memory only so you can have the previous XX minutes saved too if needed.
Get DashCam working first. If you see the dash cam icon with a red dot, then you know the system likes your USB drive and it is actively capturing video and keeping if in a ram buffer, the last 10 min or so. If you press the dash cam icon or honk your horn (if that option is set) then it will take the last up to 10 minutes and save to a file on USB and keep on saving to USB until you stop it. That dash cam icon with red dot should be seen at all times if properly set up USB drive with TeslaCam folder inserted. Make sure this records video first. If this does not work, then USB stick is your problem.
The sentry mode icon is another icon, and if enabled you will only see this one if parked, not while driving. If you see that sentry mode icon, depending on your settings, it will save video automatically to USB if some event occurs, you do not need to do anything to make it save, should be automatic if settings and USB stick are set up. Same as dash cam, it is always capturing from cameras (red dot) but storing in RAM memory, only saving to USB if an event is triggered, like dash cam above, except this time the trigger is not you manually pressing something, but something seen in cameras or the car is being jolted. As I mentioned before, sentry mode will not work until you assign your home location in the maps, because sentry mode uses home location so that location must be defined for sentry mode to function. So if home location assigned, sentry mode should enable and work once you exit and lock the doors, provided you do not have setting turned on for no sentry mode at home. If dash cam saves to USB, then sentry mode should too.
thanks for the detailed explanation. I have tested out all that you mentioned above. It looks like everything is working properly. I do have couple questions:
1. When sentry mode is set off (home location), does the camera continue to record?
2. does it drain battery if the camera is recording when the car is parked?
