What's a "Rapid Delivery Vehicle"?

I ordered a Long-Range RWD Model 3 last week. Today I contacted the local Tesla showroom to see if they have any demo models of my car that I can buy now for a demo discount. They wrote back that they have some Model 3's in my color choice that are on their way here, but they all have AWD, and they haven't been driven at all yet so there would be no discount. He referred to them as "rapid delivery vehicles." I decided to pass because I live in a warm climate and don't want to spend the extra money on AWD. But it got me wondering what a "rapid delivery vehicle" is,and how is it different from ordering and waiting, like (I thought) everyone had to do?

Probably similar to the delivery events they held in southern CA. Will just deliver to someone who comes in for that specific config

In the end it's not a big deal to me, but I guess I'm just surprised that I could get one within the week just by asking my local showroom when there are people who ordered that config months ago and still haven't received their cars.

A pre built car that Tesla should be routing to a customer who paid money in good faith a significant time ago. But Tesla is incompetent or indifferent.

It's how I essentially got my car which ended up being a demo vehicle. I was originally hoping for a "rapid delivery vehicle" (a cancelled in-route delivery vehicle) back in September before the term existed.

Incompetent - yes. Indifferent, depends on who you speak with at Tesla.

Apparently they are AWD so they couldn’t be routed for folks who are waiting for SR or even LR. Don’t know how many LR have long wait times anymore.

The biggest regret I have about my Model 3 is that I didn't get AWD. The increase in performance and handling is worth it to me. I think the AWD is the sweet spot in cost/performance for the Model 3.
