Where did you get the idea a CPO car would be refurbished?

Tesla and Mr. Musk should be ashamed and embarrassed by the used car process. It's a far cry from what it once was.

I hope it's not a precuser of Tesla's future. Could be the demise of a great car and potentially great company.

B&W pics? Someone had to change the default settings on their phone/camera to take these...or did their hire an aspiring fashion photographer?

The scratches on the bumper would bother me too but ultimately it's a matter of price. Can you get a uote from Tesla re. the cost of getting some of these issues fixed?

That's insane. I lucked out last month, but Tesla shouldn't be selling these CPO's if they can't do minimum refurb work. They shouldn't fix minor scratches, door dings. But a cracked ANYTHING or tears in seats, etc should be fixed. Almost like "if its not covered under the warranty, we're not fixing it before selling"

Wow. That car is in pretty bad shape!

My guess is they will fix the pano roof as glass is a safety hazard and not just cosmetic.

I had a rock chip in the windshield of my “CPO / used” vehicle and the delivery specialist said it would be fixed by the service center and covered by Tesla. But any other cosmetic issues are not and the car is sold as is.

Why they don’t just fix it before showing it? Not sure. I assume they don’t have the time and resources or they just don’t care.

I was looking at a P90DL, and received the photos. WTF? A hole in the body and a shattered sunroof? The 2013 P85+ CPO had new wheels and tires - everything refurbished. Take a look: Dropbox - 5YJSA1E42GF143695 - Simplify your life

The photos are pretty crappy. What else am I missing??
This car looks OK, I don't see a shattered sunroof, maybe a tire and a $500 bumper respray. Personally I'd like to see a car before it has paint put on it, buying one that has already been "refurbished" doesn't give you any idea of how it has been treated. The saying "Lipstick on a pig" comes to mind. Personally I'd buy a P85D over a P90D and it's known battery degradation issues..

He didn't. He was just comparing it to the 2013 P85+ he bought as a CPO that was fully refurbished.

The 2013 P85+ CPO had new wheels and tires - everything refurbished.

See his sig "2013 P85+ Silver/Black; Silver 19" Cyclones/Pano/Tech/UHFS/lighting/sas".

Not even the shadiest used car dealer will sell cars in this price range with cracked glass, holes, and paint damage.

It's embarrassing.

Glad you saw the photos so you don't waste your time considering this car any more. I feel awful for people who trust Tesla and show up to take delivery of their CPO car and are then appalled at the condition of the car. Wonder how many customers they will disappoint before they fix this horrible way of selling cars.

They're actually in color. You can see a little bit of color is most of the pics -- look at the tail lights and brake rotors. It's just a very monochrome looking car.

This car looks OK, I don't see a shattered sunroof,

It's the rear sunroof glass. It's pretty bad:

I believe that Tesla takes the condition of the CPO vehicle into consideration when they set it's price.

A pristine example would command a higher price than one needing work.

Same thing every manufacturer does when they send their own vehicles to auction.

In my opinion, cars in poor condition should be sent to auctions, while the nicer ones should be offered in their CPO program.

No, they absolutely do not. The forum can verify that for a fact. The price of a CPO car has no bearing on the condition of the car.

In a recent case, a forum member declined to accept a CPO car based on all the damage. Tesla promptly relisted the car at nearly $15,000 over the previous price. They of course brought the price back down so they can find someone willing to accept a beat up car.

There are sometimes $10K-20K price fluctuations within the CPO inventory and you can't assume the condition of the case based on price.

When buying a CPO Tesla, you have to check the car out thoroughly and inspect it in person as they have no qualms about trying to sell a beat-up/damaged car at whatever price they think of.

As we've seen on this thread they will sell a car with actual holes and a cracked sunroof! I agree with you completely that they should auction cars in poor condition so as to not tarnish their reputation selling cars in such poor condition.

That is crazy. I would think the shattered roof would be a safety hazard.

As I mentioned above, I believe glass is the one thing they will in fact fix for the reason you stated. My car had a rock chip in the front windshield and they fixed it (or should I say, I took in the SC and they fixed it). Still surprised they wouldn’t take a few steps prior to purchase to fix these issues prior to selling but I guess they have a firm stance on not refurbishing anything.

Just like the pictures, and everything else, they are slowly getting better, but who knows how much it will improve
