What's this new thing?? Split image backup camera?

This is something I just noticed. Looked through recent threads, didn't see anything about it...

My backup camera has a split image. Bottom panel looking back and top panel looking down.

This happened to someone a while ago, it's not a "feature", it's a bug. I think a restart fixed it.


Your images are reversed, the top is the bottom and the bottom is the top, making one real backup image.

And yep. Apparently 2 images are captured by the camera and merged on screen. And they were flipped. Rebooted both dash and center stack. All fixed.

It looks like the connection to the camera occasionally gets desynchronized, which effectively splits the image. It's a bit like how back in the day you'd sometimes get a rolling picture on your TV if the signal was poor.

This happened to me just 2 weeks ago. To do an MCU restart, hold down the scroll wheels simultaneously on the steering wheel until the center console goes blank and release. Should work.

Try rotating the two knobs on the back of your screen - one is VH and the other is UH I think. That should fix it

Yup, another firmware bug. I've had it occur twice since taking delivery in October, and don't know what combinations of events caused it. Rebooting my 17" resolved it both the times.

Yeah, that split screen annoyance started happening to me after the 7.1 update a few weeks ago, in concert with the abysmally poor MCU touch response problem. 7.0 was released October 15th of last year.

Regression testing. It's a Good Thing.

I've had both this and a super wide angle vertical shot (where I could clearly see the the underside of the hatch...how...?) appear on mine a total of three times. I'm still trying to figure out how it does it. Reboot fixed it.

There is apparently such a complex signal apparently between camera and MCU, presumably to prevent people from using it to patch-in a video player. I'm guessing this has something to do with it, may not even be a fixable bug (but I've not seen it happen on my car yet).

First ever 17" display reboot fixed it in a few seconds!
