What's your total average wh/mile

Note that this is in the UK forum, so I’m guessing the OP wanted answers reflecting UK weather and road conditions.

I’m away from home at present so can’t get the precise number off my car, but it’s in the region of 340 (S85 after 4 years). I’ll try to follow up when I get back.
 
This for UK journeys:

Split mine per-month, and also showing journeys / miles. Commute is 40 miles each way, so most journeys are "not short" and correspondingly power hungry, e.g. in Winter. Also shown some representative wH/mile for longer trips taken within that month (usually cruise control at a constant speed [for journey, but might have hit roadworks / traffic for part] and AP = ON). They will mostly be "range conscious" and Range-mode = ON journeys, but also on occasions when home was within easy reach whoever was driving :rolleyes: may have sped up; should be representative for "what is achievable on a longer run in that month".

Couple of months had insufficient data to be reliable (car at Tesla for several weeks :( or off soaking up some sun :))

I got mine in Sept last year and up until April was getting 384. However since May this has now reduced to 347. I reckon if I'd have zero'd it in May, I'd be close to the magical 300 now. The heat (or rather lack of < 9 degrees) makes a huge difference.

Yes it’s the equivalent. I’m on an electric tariff which charges me 6p per KWh. A KWh is a 1,000 Watts/hr (like having ten 100w lightbulbs on for 1 hour) .

So if you’re averaging 333 KWh in the car it’s like 1/3rd of a KWh, so in essence that mile has cost 2p to do.

It’s complicated but when you get your head around it, it’s not too bad.

My equivalent mpg is around 300 mpg!

Yup. Probably worthy of an explanation.

Petrol : Miles per Gallon.

EV : wH/mile - so if your car has a 75kWh [available/usable] battery and uses 333 wH/mile - i.e. 3 miles per kWh - then your range is 225 miles

(MX 75D is, I think, actually 72.6kWh useable and 324 wH/mile)

If you drive slowly you might get, say, 275 wH/mile (3.6 miles / kWh +20%), and in bad/cold weather you might use 450 wH/mile (2.2 miles / kWh -27%), in practice in cold winter weather (OR torrential rain) allow +20%

The main relevance is that the "fuel tank" is smaller than an ICE (along with slower to re-fuel, and fuelling station "not on every street corner"). However, with EV you can start every day with a full tank of fuel

To calculate range assume?? that you need 20 miles "comfort", and that you will normally only charge to 90%

Using A Better Route Planner to plan a trip from Suffolk to Edinburgh assuming max speed 80 MPH and Temperature 60F/16C I got:

MX 75D range at 100% charge is 153 miles

20 miles comfort, and 90% charge = daily range = 118 miles
Winter max range 115 miles, daily 89 miles

I doubt that matters, provide that you don't use the brakes (i.e. only use Re-gen). Somewhat faster acceleration, without also using brakes, is probably not that much more energy used.

EDIT: Mucked up some figures above, now corrected.

Same journey at 70 MPH, with 100% reference speed (instead of 110%):

MX 75D range at 100% charge is 169 miles

20 miles comfort, and 90% charge = daily range = 132 miles
Winter max range 127 miles, daily 99 miles

In practice you will do better than that because of Traffic / Roadworks enforcing 50 MPH for some part of motorway journeys.

MX 75D for 13 months in the Northeast and about 12,000 miles. I have an average of 332 KWh. A recent road trip brought down the average consumption as I was usually part of a car train on a 2 lane highway. The winter season was abyssmal as it regularly averaged 400+KWh.
 
Mine is 336 Wh/mile in an S85 after a shade over 4 years in UK conditions (so even mix of summer and winter).

This is mostly on longer trips (no commutes, but occasional local errands).

If thinking about range, it's only the longer trips that matter - if you are not going far it doesn't matter what Wh/mile you get as you won't run out.

Conversely, if thinking about running costs none of these figures gives an accurate answer, as they come from the on-board instrumentation recording energy out of the battery; energy taken from the mains to recharge will be at least 10% more.

This shows me how much variability there is depending on personal usage. My MX 75D (2018 uncorked) has averaged 438 Wh/mile over the last 8K miles from new. I took delivery in mid Feb, so that includes a mix of winter, spring and summer usage. On a long trip I can get down under 350 Wh/mile, but most of my shorter trips are 400+ Wh/mile. Maybe yours is a corked car, which would explain some of the huge difference. But I expect it's mainly down to different driving style and journey types. I do a lot of short fast trips cross country in little or no traffic.
