Wheego is an electric car company based out of Atlanta that you probably haven’t heard of (unless you’ve scrolled through our Electric Cars for Sale in 2013 page). It doesn’t get nearly the attention of Tesla or the Nissan Leaf, or even CODA. Of course, its sales don’t compare to Tesla’s or the Leaf’s, but it is reportedly selling vehicles.

Wheego offers the LiFe EV (which is a small, two-seat electric car with 100 miles of range) and the Whip (another small, two-seater — but with just 40 miles of range).

The LiFe sells for $32,995 while the Whip sells for just $18,995 (not including federal tax incentives or other state or local financial incentives for electric vehicles). With the Nissan Leaf now selling for $28,800, it’s hard to imagine the LiFe is actually able to compete. However, the much cheaper Whip may be seeing some sales.

I don't expect to be particularly impressed. I test drove one of their vehicles at AltCar Expo last year. In short, what a hunk of junk.

Out of all the BEVs, FCVs and the PHEV Volt I drove there, it was by far the worst vehicle I drove. Coda would be the 2nd to worst. All the other vehicles (e.g. Leaf, Ford Focus Electric, Rav4 EV, FCX Clarity, Fit EV, Volt, etc.) were WAY more refined.

Well, if they are really that $h1tty, then 'wheego' will soon become 'wheegone' and 'LiFe' will eventually turn to 'DeaTH'. I think all these other EV makers and wannabes need to throw in the towel and just copy what Tesla did if they even want a 'whee' bit of a chance of making something halfway decent.

In looking over the web pages, I'm quite sure I drove a Wheego LiFe. They're fricking nuts to ask for $33K (not including $2K for air conditioning) for a vehicle so lacking in refinement.

I thought they were nuts for that price before the '13 Leaf price drop and addition of the cheaper S trim level (MSRP of $28,800). They will be in even more trouble when more relatively cheap CA compliance EVs show up (e.g. Spark EV and Fiat 500e).

Anyhow, if anyone is near/in So Cal or is planning a trip there September and like EVs, PHEVs or FCVs, I do recommend AltCar Expo. I drove down there last year from the Bay Area (~350 miles from home for me).
