When to order for a March 1 delivery? (Texas)

Looking to take delivery of a MY on March 1, but not before. My SA has suggested I place the order now, however I'm wondering if that's the right strategy.

1. What's the process if a vehicle was available before 3/1 and I had to pass? How is this done? Does it essentially put me at the end of the line or...?

2. Are there any potential positives/negatives to ordering now vs later? (eg: If there was a price drop on 2/1, would I be locked into the older price, etc?)

3. Any other considerations I should be aware of?

Feel free to order now, and just say you want to defer when they match you early. They might ask something like "are you sure, because of demand you might get a vehicle near end of quarter" but that's about it. Pretty easy.

If price goes down, I believe you get the lowest price. If price goes up, you are locked in at whatever you agreed upon.

Other considerations would be figuring out if you want a performance model or not, and if you are unsure you should test drive the non-performance first. They have different suspension stiffness.

You can order it now, just tell your SA to put a note stating you will not take delivery before March 1. I did that for my Model 3 order, what will happen is they will put a date when to release the vehicle match closer to the specified date. Depending on how quickly things are moving it will either be an automated match or an SA will locate a vehicle that matches your configuration.

TerranCaz has explained everything about the pricing.

What does deferring involve? Is it an email to my SA if that happens, or simply a button click?

As far as the Perf vs LR, I've driven both. Leaning towards LR with acceleration boost.

Yep, it's no hassle to defer. You can tell your SA about it.

If you do nothing, they might text you with a matched car for delivery. Instead of saying 'YES' you can just say 'defer' and then they will call you to confirm.

Ok perfect. Also, assuming I order now, I can presumably wait until late Feb to fund the thing without issue? The timing of all this is a bit unclear given funding happens before delivery...

Trying to like up everything, a couple months in advance with Tesla is always going to be a bit challenging.

Best is to contact your delivery specialist and tell him your goals.

There have been posts where everything is set to go, but their specific car got damaged in transport, so everything needed to be re adjusted at the last minute.

Telsa is a huge company, with lots of moving parts while you are a unique individual with specific desires. Sometime hard to be 100% certain everything will align on a date certain.

In Jan-Feb, most Fremont production is going for import orders. It takes a long time for them to get transportated and set for customer delivery. They will want to do this to get everything currently in production delivered to customers before EOQ. In March they will begin to divert production back to domestic deliveries, as they can transport much quicker than overseas.

In other words, if you want delivery on March 1st, that may be a challenge. If you are flexible to take delivery more towards the end of March, that might work out easier.

Work with your delivery specialist to see what he feels might be your best solution.

I heard similar from my SA. He's suggesting I order now to ensure late Feb / early March delivery. Sounds like there's not any real downside to doing that now...

Just be aware, that Tesla wants to get their production delivered as efficiently as possible to recognize the revenue prior to end of Quarters.

If your ordered car comes in, but you decide for what ever reason you want to delay delivery, most likely that car will be delivered to the next customer in line and you will need to wait for the next available vehicle in your configuration.

With Tesla currently delivering over 9,000 vehicles every week, they have few options to store cars until each buyer makes last minute decisions.

Best to have some flexibility in your delivery schedule.
