Does anyone have any news?
No, but here are some tweets that you can use to come to your own conclusion.
"Doesn’t matter yet whether you have Tesla FSD computer or Tesla Nvidia-based computer. When it does matter later this year, Tesla will switch the computers for you." - Elon Musk - Twitter - April 9 2019
"Tesla will start FSD computer upgrade in a few months" Elon Musk - Twitter - April 14 2019
"Upgrading hardware is not important for a few months" - Elon Musk - Twitter - April 23 2019
So I was thinking about this:
Why not start upgrades now if you were going to do it anyway.
Pacing out installs vs a mad rush and cs nightmare.
Tesla is either too disorganized to plan or conserving cash in Q2.
1. Conserving cash
2. Still working on production/supply issues
3. Wont be surprised if there is v3.5 or 4.0 before FSD is really out lol
Not this year I bet.
Best to just custom order buy a new X or S one to be sure....if you want it anytime this year....maybe even next year.....
It appears the FSD board is manufactured in China using the custom chip made in Samsung's Austin plant, and that Tesla will now be hit with a 25% tariff on importing the board to the US.
If that's the case, it seems unlikely Tesla would do the HW2 to HW3 upgrades until either a trade agreement is reached (and the tariffs go away) or Tesla shifts to another manufacturer outside of China.
It's more like Elon's mouth wrote a check his butt can't cash, and we'll never see a "retrofit".
