All of the (North American) Signature 100 Roadsters are 1.5 models.

I may be missing something, why would the new big battery not work? Is that what failed?

Six - The big battery does not work with the 1.5 powertrain (first 500 cars). Tesla does have a replacement battery available, but it is at the specs of the original. It has also been quoted at a price higher than the new, higher capacity battery. So I'm waiting to see how Tesla responds over the next few weeks.
