I notice that several of my choices have not been popular and have been dropped: --Lacewood trim --Green exterior --Aero rims Ah well. Makes my car more unique!
I do love the lacewood too. It's really different from all the wood trims seen in all other cars and I am also happy I was able to get the Aero rims for my winter tires. They make the black Model S look like a batmobile. Sorry, THE batmobile.
When I was shopping for my 85D, the rep told me the lacewood had been dropped because there was too much variability between the showroom model and the vehicle delivered, and people would freak out because what got built into their car didn't look like what they saw on their test drive. All very well to say "look, it's a natural product, of course there's variability", but if they were really creating customer dissatisfaction that way, getting rid of the option does seem like a sure-fire way to address it. (Of course, that was one rep's view.) IMO it's a pity. I found the Obeche to be boring (sorry, Obeche owners), ditto the Piano, so I ended up with Carbon Fiber. I would have seriously considered the lacewood.
I lost Lacewood when I changed my order to a D, and didn't care for any of the other options....I guess I saved $650, but I am a little bit sad about that.
@jgs, thanks for posting that, it makes a lot of sense. I got the Lacewood and like it very much but I can understand why Tesla decided not to continue with it.
Lacewood was far and away the most interesting choice. I see the car as Sporty first and Luxurious second. Had the order been reversed I would have graced my car with the Lace.
It is definitely a shame they discontinued the Lacewood. Like others have stated, carbon fiber is great too, and would be my second choice. Hopefully they bring in another interesting wood choice, but I can see that less options means less manufacturing costs too. It's all business in the end.
I thought the Lacewood was the best choice and then the Carbon Fiber. We'll TM....replace it with a brushed aluminium instead.
Love the lacewood in my interior as well. Was going to go with obeche matte, but made a last minute switch after seeing it in a colleague's car.
RIP Lacewood trim, RIP Green paint, RIP Grey performance leather.........I'm doing really well aren't I?
Inhave lacrwood, love them. But it really looks so much different from the showroom. Even though it is a nature product, the oval pattern should be man made, so i don't understand why the pattern vary so much.
