Where is the new Supercharger going to be in NJ ? Any confirms?

Toms River would be ok for the shore, but wouldn't help much for those bound for AC/the shore from Philly and points west and south.

The Garden State/AC Expwy intersection is far enough from the hotels in AC that I don't think it would count as destination charging.

I sent them a recommendation months ago for the shore mall by AC expressway and GSP. Perfect location.

Selfishly, I would much rather see one out on the Shore; I am not sure sticking another one on or near the Turnpike makes a whole lot of sense, since Edison and Delaware are going to be so close together. I'd personally much rather see one at the intersection of the Garden State and the AC Expressway, which would be helpful both for people making the drive to south shore point from NYC and to people making the AC run.

I agree it would be nice to have one near the Shore, and yobigd20's recommendation of the Shore Mall makes a lot of sense. But with Cape May "only" ~135 miles from Edison and < 100 miles from Newark DE (i.e. well within the one-way range of the S60), I can somewhat understand why Tesla might not prioritize it as high as some others.

As for Hamilton/Hightstown, perhaps the rationale is that everyone expects Edison to be extraordinarily congested, so it gives travelers on the I-95 corridor an option in a less densely populated area. It also facilitates travel from northern/western Philly suburbs to northern NJ Shore points along I-195 or Route 33, although frankly I don't know how popular that route is.

Ehh I know a 60 owner that has come very close to running out trying to make it back to DE from the shore. Sometimes weather and traffic just doesn't play nice. There definitely needs to be one down there. Shore mall just makes a lot of sense. You get all the NYC folks going down to the cape. You get PA traffic doing to the casinos. Etc etc it's just a very convenient location for people coming and going to/from different places.

Don't get me wrong, I agree there *should* be a supercharger down there, I was trying to speculate on Tesla's rationale for not having it *yet*. I'm sure a supercharger at Shore Mall would get lots of use -- especially with a relative lack of public charging stations or other destination charging near the Shore as of yet, it's not realistic right now for many people to take a day trip, or in some cases even an overnight trip, in a Model S.

Now that the "coming soon" map has been updated, I wonder if it's time to do a little speculation / scavenger hunting for NJ's 2nd supercharger...

My best guess: Hamilton Marketplace on Route 130, just south of I-195 (exit 5A). There are lots of restaurants nearby, plus a Hilton Garden Inn, and it's relatively close to the Turnpike (~2 miles) and I-295 (~5 miles).

I also remember reading earlier speculation that it would be a bit further north, like East Windsor or Hightstown. In that case, it looks like Route 33 near the Turnpike has quite a few hotels and a couple restaurants, and Route 130 near the Hightstown Bypass (Route 133) has a lot of restaurants.

Hamilton Marketplace NJ has been confirmed, almost (no pics yet). Someone on Motley Fool says it's under construction right now and the Tesla signage is up so its a definitely confirmation. (I'll hold off on believing it until I see real pics!)

however, I can't find the source of this information supposedly reported on Motley Fool...

Wow, cool--thanks for the confirmation.

I remained skeptical up until seeing the photos. Seems like an odd place to put one, given the proximity of Edison. But maybe this just means Superchargers are going to be denser on the ground in NJ than we've been expecting...

At the Edison Zoning Board meeting in January, I spoke to Tesla's NJ Attorney (who was dealing with the Supercharger permits and zoning issues), and he said they were also working on Hamilton, but gave to further details then.

It's a pretty good location considering NJ Turnpike authority's lack of willingness to put Superchargers in service areas.

The Hamilton Supercharger will serve the I 95 (A mid point from CT to DE. Edision charger is fairly hard to get to actually, in a very congested area), I 195 (people going to the shore area), and people heading to PA via I 276.

Nice. And totally leapfrogging Edison. Thanks for the news and photo, yobigd20!

It's been reported that Edison's permits were pulled and the Edison supercharger has been completely canceled (per the contractors at Hamilton). Explains why we've seen no progress there. I'm kinda happy about that anyway because that was VERY bad location for a supercharger. It took me almost an hour to get from NJT to Menlo Park Mall and back just due to heavy traffic. So that would not have made an ideal location for "quickly stopping for a supercharge".

Damn. Was looking forward to the Edison one.

This video of the Hamilton, NJ Supercharger was posted by someone yesterday. The guy claims there is an issue with the main service hookup that needs to be resolved and the crew has left the site for now.

Yobigd,

I think you misinterpreted what I or someone else said elsewhere about Edison. From talking to the contractors in Hamilton, that group was not scheduled to do Edison currently next, but could bid on Edison, or other contractors. Plus, Will from Tesla (last night) gave no indication that Edison was scrapped.

I am in the same boat as you. Running up the turnpike from the in-laws in Manalapan, NJ to the city I need a stop in between to help get a quick charge.

I think I may have misunderstood , am being told that Edison is still a "go" but probably being done by a different contractor.

This is great news. I am looking forward to the Edison site.
