Models S is still a very young lady. She needs to grow up. :)
Missing
- interior storage
- usable cup holders front and rear
- lighted vanity mirrors
- door and seat pockets
- flip down handles and coat hangers
- proper trunk lighting
are some of the reasons why I gave the car 4 stars out of 5. Plus the screen is not matte. There is a glare. And I hate that. :cursing:

I like the interior storage as is
my cup holders work great I don't want passengers in the back to have drinks, they might choke and spit their drink everywhere
mirrors, eh don't use them much
pocket in the front of driver seat is enough - holds some sandalwood and a lighter
trunk lighting isn't the worst. I do like the led strip under the shelf mount idea, should be an easy fix

wiper sensitivity is the only problem I have had in 700 miles

In Germany you do NOT eat or drink in your car. It is simply not done. So even though the American market has forced them into adding cupholders they as a company do not believe in them and so they do not put any effort into designing proper ones.

Not quite true any longer. We do eat and drink in our cars, but perhaps not single people, that is true.
But every car that is aimed at a family audience now offers (at least optional in some cases) cup holders you can use. They might not hold American sized cups, but we don't get them here anyway, so no problem there .

I completely agree. I'm loving driving my car, but there are definite compromises in convenience areas that I didn't expect to be making. I would not give the car 5 stars either right now. 4 maybe.

I would be one of those who appreciate the spartan interior - the fewer places to fill with junk, the better. You can read my posts "pre-merge" for why "no laundry hooks" doesn't bother me. I would be part of the "family" demographic, having 4 kids of my own; I would anticipate that the people who are bothered by this the most are those who have to work every day in a suit, in my experience a dying breed :)wink:)... mostly the financial sector around here.

edit: I must be in a weird "quotation marks" mood tonight!

The Land-Rover i drove for ~20 years didn't have any cupholders or glove compartment. There was a storage box but it was under the driver's seat so you had to remove the seat cushion to get access. There was also an open tray in the dash.

Pretty much every car I've ever seen, down to the cheapest subcompact, has some sort of coat hook in the back seat, somewhere along the roofline. Went to pick up my dry-cleaning today and realized that my $100k luxury car has no hooks... nowhere to hang your coat or your dry cleaning. lay it down in the back seat and it falls to the floor at your next stop light... trunk or frunk will have to do, but they slide around there too. seems dumb not to have the little hook. Also made me realize there aren't those passenger grab handles (which sometimes integrate the coat hook). Grab handles are always nice, especially the way we're likely to drive in this car!
GRRRR....

Couldnt agree more. I mean wow, really?

Im a lawyer and need to have a place to hang a coat and cleaning. Any retro fit?

See the solution @ChadS found, upthread. Not perfect, but works for a jacket or a few pieces of cleaning.
What about Glass Window Sucker Lock Hanger? Suck it to the panoroof or back window. :)

I don't have a pano roof. Grrrr. I debated on it and didnt get it. Had I only known that the only way to get a "garment hook" is with a pano roof option...

Other ideas?

i like that. Do they work/stay stuck?

Ok. I have had my "S" for 3 months now and absolutely love it. There is one thing that I absolutely hate. I am the poor slub that has to wear a suit most days to work and I am not about to wear my jacket while I am driving, I don't need my clients thinking that I sleep in it and that's what it would look like. Why in god's name wouldn't they install a 25 cent piece of plastic that has so much utility and takes no space.

I first thought that with all the engineering that went into this car there was no time for anyone to give it any thought, or that no true designer or engineer would dare be assigned to this ridiculously small task and they gave it to an intern instead who was too busy tweeting his buddies about his big job at Tesla to finish the task. I'll kill him when I find him. Then I thought that with my two Masters degrees that I should be able to find some nook or cranny that I could jab a coat hook into (I do not have a pano roof) and I'll be darned, I can't find a single place to hang a darn hanger in the whole car. It was then that I decided in some cruel joke to the suits of the world (it is silicon valley) an engineer was hired to specifically design the interior to be sure that nobody could hang their jacket. Maybe I am being a little bit paranoid, but I need to be able to hang my coat so it stops falling on the floor on nearly every trip.

I called Tesla service to ask why I didn't have a hook, surely it must have just been left off my car since every car from my first (a new $4,995 Ford Escort where everything but the coat hanger broke in the first 3 years) to my nearly $100,000 BMW and everything in between had one or even up to three of the things in the car. The answer, and I quote- "I was told it was to save weight" .......sorry, I had to stop writing for 10 minutes to stop laughing again.... really??? do you know what this car weighs??

I then asked if it would be difficult to stop in the parts department at my local friendly BMW store and bought the 25 cent piece of plastic from them for $289 (my guess based on life experience) and drill it in myself. The answer, and I quote "that doesn't sound like a good idea, you don't know what you will hit"...... sigh

Ok, now to my questions

1) Has anyone ever seen Elon in a suit
2) Does anyone know the previously mentioned intern, I am looking for him
3) I have done some serious performance mods on past cars so don't laugh at me when I ask my serious question... does anyone know how to do a retrofit to get a hook in the rear of the car behind the drivers seat in the headliner where they should have put one in the first place? It is a sedan after all and I have to pay for it all the same, and though I live in the bay area--- I am not one of the fortunate ones that gets to make a hefty living going to work in jeans and a t-shirt.... IDEA.... forget the hook, how do I get one of those jobs?

No, really- I need a coat hook. Please help, and sorry for the rant.

The reason this has to be done with care is that you have the side curtain airbags just above the doors all the way under the headliner.

I would contact some professional aftermarket installers to install hooks before we know how and where to put them safely. There are some threads on the forum of people customizing their Model S's and different companies helping them, the more famous one is probably Dr Taras working with Al & Ed's of West Hollywood: http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/14877-Dr-Taras-Model-S-gets-customized!

I suggest you contact anyone of them or some other professionals to help you, maybe even your local Tesla service could advice you how to install hooks safely.
Also let us know where to put them when you have had them installed

I am no help to you whatsoever, sbgator90. Just wanted to thank you for the great laugh I got from reading your post.

Same here. Love your post, sbgator90, every minute detail of it (plus I agree with the sentiments!).

Hey, here's an idea. With your talent for witty writing, sarcasm and black humor, why don't you try to get a job in Hollywood - perhaps then you can make a fortune while wearing jeans + t-shirts.
In all honesty, I'd rather watch a tv show written/created/produced by you than all that Two and three quarter Men (et. al.) crap we currently get

In the Bay Area, I would highly recommend Sound Innovations in Hayward. They retrofitted parking sensors and a carbon fiber rear valence to my Model S, and I would trust them to do ANY modifications to the car. Total attention to detail, and they had a contact in Tesla engineering that they used to make sure it was OK to drill through the bumper, where to tie into 12V power, etc. If you decide to do it, I would recommend taking them the photo above showing the side curtain airbag to make their research easier.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this yet myself, but it looks like it should work.
Further disclaimer: Don't blame me if a rear-seat passenger is harmed.

The black plastic backs of the front seats have two fairly flat planes, one towards the top that is angled top-forward, and just below that, angled bottom-forward. I believe you could put a 3M Command Strip large clear hook on either surface. I'd use the lower one, so that the jacket hangs straight provided that that is high enough up for your jackets. Holds up to 4 pounds, which should be enough for a jacket and an extra shirt.
