The Trump administration wants to turn the International Space Station into a commercially run venture, NASA document shows.
2024 might be perfect timing for a certain WH insider who'll possibly consider taking a different approach to failing with a new casino resort hotel.
As opposed to allowing the station to burn up in the atmosphere, I like the idea of selling it to private interests. The idea was around before the current administration came into office though.
If this happens, it will be tun cheaper, more efficiently, safer, and a lot more things will come from the worn at the ISS. It’s actually a good idea whether it came from President Trump or a predecessor. Hopefully President Trump will make it so tho!!
Private corporations may not necessarily operate the ISS “safer” than NASA, since they are focused on maximizing profits, not maximizing safety.
The ISS programme is a joint project among five participating space agencies: NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and CSA.[16][17] The ownership and use of the space station is established by intergovernmental treaties and agreements.[18] The station is divided into two sections, the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS) and the United States Orbital Segment (USOS), which is shared by many nations. As of January 2014, the American portion of ISS is being funded until 2024.[19][20][21] Roscosmos has endorsed the continued operation of ISS through 2024[22] but has proposed using elements of the Russian Orbital Segment to construct a new Russian space station called OPSEK.[23]
While an interesting idea, I wonder how this would actually work... Wouldn’t alphabet, apple or michael jackson just buy the whole thing?
