When I turn on my overheat protection its just a slider switch (on and off)... no other options further than that. What am I missing here?

Maybe that’s only an option on Model 3. Sorry, I forgot this thread is in the Model S forum.

Don’t worry, you aren’t missing much. The no A/C option isn’t very effective when it’s warm outside.

Yes, but it could save on the longevity of the AC compressor.

This thread has definitely increased my attention to the idea of buying some sunshades. Not only might that save some energy, it could (apparently) lengthen the life of the AC compressor. And it might help the upholstery or electronics on those days when cabin overheat protection does not run because it has been >12 hours since I last used the car....

Overheat protection is working great today. It’s 90F outside and the car is parked in full sun. The cabin fan is running but the compressor hasn’t yet, and it’s holding the car steady at 100°F.

It’s very smart about how it uses energy and it won’t run the compressor unless it needs to.

It does.
But on mine at least depending on when you wake it to look at inside temps it can be at 106 where it’s about to turn on, or on it’s way down to 100 while cooling. At least for me I’ve seen this swing typically.

Mine turns on at 105° and cools down to 90° and shuts off. Here in Arizona it only takes a few minutes to climb back to 105° and turn on again.
