Interesting. In my city, Tesla will not send the PTO paperwork to the utility until after the final inspection is passed.
That is interesting. I wonder if they forgot in my case or if it goes by the utility. Could be your utility requires a final inspection before PTO which would make more sense than the way it worked for me.

My guess is it is all of the above. The utilities are each different as are the city/county inspection agencies. People 20 miles from me are having to meet specs for installing powerwalls that we did not and seeing a lot of extra paperwork and project delays. On the upside they are getting final inspections and PTOs within 2 days after requesting versus weeks for us.

My solar roof was wrapped up today. In the morning when the crew had barely begun I got a text, an email and a phone call shortly thereafter from the inspection scheduler who told me that the inspection was set for this Wednesday. She wanted to make sure that there were not going to be any access issues and since we had horses, that they would not be in the area. She told me they would call again that AM to confirm the time of the inspection once they knew it.

We've scheduled and confirmed your Solar Roof installation inspection.

The inspection coordinator will reach out to you with details and next steps. Once the inspection is complete, we will let you know as soon as your utility company gives their approval for you to turn on your system

Today I noticed that after the crew cleaned up the site and left that they hid the inspection sheets in a plastic bag tucked in behind the inverter. The scheduler also said that the Tesla rep would be on site for the inspection and had about six of them in my area to do that day.

Congrats.

On the morning of our inspection, someone from the inspection team came out and put up placards and a ton of stickers on all of the boxes and conduit. They walked the inspector through the system and paperwork, and the inspection was done in less than 15 minutes.

BTW, does your county/city have any smoke/CO detectors for a barn? We had to sign something that said we had them in each room/floor as part of our inspection.

Not aware of any. But this barn even has fire sprinklers which was first for the county in 2008 and maybe still is.

Last week Tesla scheduled our City inspection. A Tesla team member came earlier to set everything up for the inspector and waited till he showed. They talked for a bit and got everything approved.
Couple days later I got a request for payment. After payment they will contact Utillty to get integrated to the grid and I will be asked to turn the system on by rotating a knob.

Inspector said they were running a bit behind because so many want approvals before EOY and Covid had make them a bit short handed.

Everybody seemed to be working hard and in good faith.

Sounds like our inspection. The Tesla guy had everything labeled and opened up before the inspector arrived. 15 minutes with a lot of just chatting and approved!
