Who would prefer Waze navigation instead of Google maps?

I find Waze distracting - tonnes of little smiley faces all over the map, every stopped car and minor incident needlessly highlighted. The Tesla navigation works well for me. Only thing is it doesn't update the traffic data as often as Google Maps on my phone. That said, when Google suggest 'alternative' routes to save 4 mins of queueing, it tends to just make everything worse as it sends hundreds of people on wild goose chase country lane-clogging trip that drives locals mad. Unless the motorway is totally blocked it's generally much easier and less stressful just to stay in the queue.
 
I find the routing algorithm in the Tesla nav system suboptimal. My house is in the middle of a two mile country B road which has an A road at either end. There is also a very narrow single track road that intersects with my B road. I always try to avoid the single track road, which is neither quicker nor shorter distance to my home. Invariably, from whichever side of my B road I approach, the Tesla suggests routing me around and in via the single track lane. Often this would be a longer path (both distance and time). As soon as I turn onto the B road it corrects itself, but this insistence on going around and taking the single track road gives me no confidence in the Tesla navigation algorithm when I am driving on unfamiliar roads and at a minimum I find myself also running Apple Maps or Waze on my phone to confirm the car routing.

you can turn of each/all of the map overlays and notifications you're not interested in

I would like the option. I was stuck in local traffic a couple of nights ago for 45 minutes because the police had closed the A1 in Hendon. All the Tesla Satnav wanted me to do was go round the block and come out onto the (blocked) A1 again. I had to get Waze out to ask it for alternative routes.

Does the Tesla Nav do this as I could not figure out how?

Waze users would mark the route as blocked and then subsequent travellers would be re-routed automatically. That's a nice feature Tesla does not have.

Also, SPEED CAMERA ALERTS!!!
Speed camera alerts is the only thing I miss from Waze, it's brilliant.

I am using Teslamirror app for ios and android to stream Waze in the Tesla browser. For now it is the best solution to get Waze integrated in my Tesla Model 3.

You dont need any extra hardware and it will not use more mobile data than you need for Waze.

Never used Waze so can't really vote, but I can tell you that coming from the system in my old Disco makes the native system in the M3 feel like perfection. The algorithm used by Land Rover (at the time) is absolute bobbins, whoever programmed that wants to be forced to live with it for a while, then tarred and feathered for good measure!
 
I finally settled on how I use Waze in my Tesla. I have a 2021 MYLR. I like Tesla route planner for hitting the Superchargers on a trip and monitoring the energy screen. I then have Waze Sounds configured to "Alerts Only" and "Play sound on phone speaker". I'll then put the destination in both and place the phone on the wireless charging pad. Now I get hazards, police, speed cams, etc announced. I wish Waze would properly share to the Tesla App so I only had to enter destination once.

I don't like TeslaWaze or screen mirror as it takes over the entire right section of the Tesla screen.

That's reminds me of something about Tesla navigation that surprises me - in my previous car and a lot of the other navigation apps I've used, they've had the ability to remember favourite routes. So if the navigation always tries to take you a certain route as you leave or return home, but you always go another way, it starts routing you that way after a handful of journeys.

As far as I can tell the Tesla nav system doesn't have that ability, which seems odd because local knowledge often trumps routing algorithms; even when it doesn't it's still a user preference that should be respected.

I use Waze mostly in the Morgan, via my phone.
I'm also a big fan of "What 3 Words", it allows the selection of a 3m x 3m square and this can be passed as geo coordinates to Google or Waze, far, far more accurate and precise than all other mapping software.
 
I like to use Waze on longer trips in any vehicle. I mirror the app on my phone to my in car display to see traffic hazards, police activity, et al. I report or confirm hazards during my trips. I am now using Teslwaze in my M3 but have not figured out how to report and/or confirm the hazard information on the screen. What is the trick for doing that? i.e. reporting police, road hazards, construction, etc. Does one have to have a trip navigation selected on the app? The Teslawaze app seems to work differently than the phone app. i have tried to invoke the Waze app in the browser as a seperate window but it does not allow me to log in and it then freezes the browser requiring a reboot of the car.

I used to be hacking in POIs from cvs files and all sorts of stuff to get camera alerts etc. Waze was always by for the best all round of what I’d tried and battered to death, paid or unpaid.

However, I must say that these days I’m always surprised at how much bashing the Tesla system gets. It’s not as good as Waze but the differential between the two isn’t enough to make me want to faff around with a phone. I disliked the factory Nav in my last ICE, a Merc B200 sport, such that I would set up waze with charging etc and a Brodit clip mount etc. Not so in either of our Teslas. It’s lacking but not lacking enough to make it worth the fiddle. I do pretty long-distance miles up and down the UK and the navigation is way better then a lot of stuff I’ve tried. It certainly isn’t tragic. i don’t live in London anymore and maybe this is why I’m more tolerant. Dodging me down tiny streets to beat traffic in a bonkers city was where Waze shone brightly. But for hiking up and down the country and navigating through some cities, it’s fine and the traffic/re-routing has fared pretty well too.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting old and the Tesla system is like trousers with an elasticated waist but I don’t get the levels of bashing people give it. The convenience and the screen size/location buy it an awful lot of tolerance from me over going back to a phone app IMHO.

I think we are asking for waze to be allowed on the screen. Waze is demonstrably more accurate than the out of date Tesla system.
 
It would be nice if Tesla opened up the system to have third party apps in a sandboxed environment, but I think that's a long way off if it ever happens (which is unlikely). I see no reason to believe that anything radical will happen on that front in the practical lifetime of the car, including stuff like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, etc.
