Who's tinted their windows?

I went with 30 on all door windows, and 15 on the rear . Interesting Tinter would not do the front windscreen as they said there had been reports of the liquid used in installation damaging electronics in the pillars.... they point blank refused to do the front.

My tint job cost $400 total, $300 regular. The extra $100 was because the back window is extended. I got 5% all around. Wanted to go with an EV specialty shop, but they didn't have the level of tint desired so I went with a different local tint specialist.

Window film is described in visible light transmission, so the higher the number the LIGHTER the tint. 70% film is almost clear, for example.
Pretty sure that was in reference to CjRichMar's post, talking about "5% all around". Those front sides don't 'look' legal in his pics, either. Maybe it's a typo and just how the photos look but ending up in an accident with illegally tinted windows is likely to result in a Bad Time(tm).

I think the rule is above %25 on the sides in TX, so 30% on the sides is the functional minimum. Front is 'clear' (outside the top band of the window) where, as you say, 70% and up is nominally 'clear' (without color, because there's color limitations to do with red, blue, and I think amber/yellow).

Hey Boludo, I'm in C'bad and am getting my whole 3 tinted on Wednesday, including the windshield. I made the decision on the windshield tint based on the tablet. I figure if the tint can keep a little heat off the tablet it will be a good thing. I've heard of rainbow effects while using polarized sunglasses, but I don't need to wear polarized sunglasses while driving my 3, so it is not a big deal to me.

If you are in Carlsbad, you gotta look into Adonis Detail. They are an Authorized Spectra PhotoSync and CeraLuxe Nano window film dealer.

I attempted to have my Model3 tinted (4 doors and rear glass) by a local shop who told me proudly they are the busiest and highest regarded 3M authorized installer in the area..... that 3M sends their engineers to this shop. Even though no 3M pattern exists yet, they said they'd be able to cut it by hand so they ordered a 60" roll.

Ninety minutes and 3 tries on the rear glass later, they couldn't get the shrinking to work right and there were all these creases and wrinkles. So they took it off at my request, and I was told they'd do research and get back to me. Several days later, the best they could tell me was that they didn't find anything useful and the only way they could do it was to cut the rear glass' tint in to strips and line this up with invisible seams but they didn't want to do that since it would be an inferior installation job.

To those who have had the back window tinted (either the entire glass or up to the factory tint on top), can you give me any information about how your tinter got the bottom of the rear glass to shrink and curve correctly in a single piece? The area covering the defroster lines, I mean.

Any advice or info is useful! Thank you.

Sorry to hear with your difficulties. Unfortunately, this is a skill oriented craft, and with the rear glass of the Model 3 being so curved, most installers will not be able to lay it down right. It can be done, but only through the hands of someone with many many years of tinting experience.

I reached out to him as he has a good rep. I'm just not interested in the $1,300 he quoted for CeraLuxe tint. I'm truly happy for him (seriously) he has people to pay than kind of cash for window tint. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people.
