Why Convex Wheels

I know there must be a reason that so many manufacturers have factory wheels that protrude beyond the wheel. Seems like a no brainer to me to use concave wheels. Can anyone explain the logic of convex wheels.

With that being said I am looking at Ace Alloy Gray Mica wheels to replace the standard 20's on my X. They are concave and look good with the machined part matching the chrome on the car and the mostly gray matching the color of my MSM X. https://www.acealloywheel.com/images/ff_logo_cover.png

Apart from style, Generally it has to do with offset. Wider track cars require higher offsets which leaves little room for a concave design with a desirable sized rim lip.

No, I have not upgraded my wheels yet. Maybe will pursue that further once I have been vaccinated.
