    • This article sums it up perfectly!

    • Why We Need More Space Adventures

    • Why has society lost interest interest in space after BSG and the space shuttle ended?

    • Was it the reality shows? Superhero movies? A culture that promoted materialism rather than intellect?

That article was published in 2011. Since then there have been many many movies and TV (an outdated term of course) shows set in space. In my opinion there is far more interest in space exploration now then there was in 2011, and much of that can be attributed to the success of SpaceX using reusable rockets, lowering the cost to orbit, bringing commercial launches back to the US, as well as launching humans to LEO from Florida for the first time since...2011 when that article was written just as the Space Shuttle program ended.

I will add that SpaceX turned launching into an event. Putting GoPro's onto the rocket and having us get to experience a launch from the rocket itself. Showing a launch off the pad is still cool but experiencing what is happening from the rocket takes it to a new level. Seeing MECO happen in front of you and following a booster all the way to a landing is exciting. SpaceX has re-ignited the excitement of space. It's something that NASA should have done throughout their existence.
