This doesn't apply to nearly empty parking lots, but I tend to park next to the nicest car I can find in the lot with an empty space next to it in the hope that they don't want their car dinged either.

Again I will go with KC. This effect happens all over the world. It seems the distance to the door squared is just
perfect for someone to park 2 inches to your car.

haha. I dodge trucks because there's no way they can hop off a big truck without having to swing the door all the way open. With vans because might be a whole circus inside, even if the door slides back, it'll likely come packed with strollers and bunch of randos.

Then again, anything can happen so it's all peace of mind, haha

Last summer I parked in the back of the grocery store lot like I always do. No car within 10 stalls of mine. I come out and there is a station wagon next to me with a uhaul backed up to it and they are loading crap from the truck to the car. Meanwhile an old lady that is with them is letting her dog piss on my tire. Sometimes a swear people are just f’ing with me because I have a “fancy” car and I park far away.

The haters know you are trying to avoid all the vehicles parked next to you, so they park next to you on purpose.
