As startups scale up, they usually evolve from the "just in time" startup business model - to a more traditional model.

Tesla is unusual because Musk has resisted that so far - and kept the company running in "startup" mode even as they scaled up - at least so far.

While Tesla could do better in some areas, its ability to quickly adapt and evolve could be critical in their upcoming battle with the established manufacturers as they bring competing EVs to the market. Those manufacturers have more complex business models, which makes it more difficult for them to quickly adapt. So it's difficult to classify Musk's strategy as "mis-management" - even if Tesla makes some mistakes along the way, if they can quickly recover from them, in the long run, their nimbleness may be the key to competing long-term with the bigger players.

It’s a not a startup issue. It’s not even an viewed as an issue to Tesla.

Things like panel gap and private owners frustrated with customer service is a relic in the vision of Tesla. Great customer service from a car manufacturer is a weak moat in a competitive market, and no benefit in the current one. And Tesla/Musk doesn’t view themselves a car manufacturer. They’re an energy arbitrage and tech company, racing towards the ultimate moat of unlocking the potential IoT based autonomous fleets/robotaxis and AI controlled energy storage. Why even consider artifacts of old ICE car ownership, when the ultimate goal is reducing car ownership?

Tesla sucks at communication because :
1) The goal is to clean the air, by selling the cheapest EV with long range at mass quantity, hence Model 3/Y and soon China $25K model.
2) Great customer service is expensive to supply, so it would raise car prices, so it goes against the goal of #1
3) The Tesla cars are so good that they are production limited, every single thing they manufacture is sold immediately. So no reason to add customer service. Tesla is willing to give up the class of buyer who buys expensive EVs and demands good customer service. You guys had a good run but it's over now.
4) Model S and X and high-end buyers are not part of Tesla's mission anymore, those cars are manufactured for mostly sentimental reasons now.

No, your last bullet is wrong. The model S is by far the most desirable tesla, just most people can't afford it. Plus, the pricing allows tesla to put more premium features on the vehicle so they can say they have the best everything. That's why. The model s is better in every way than the 3 again, and same with X/Y. People are always going to want luxury features and there will always be a market. The S isn't going anywhere for sure. I know elon made the comment that you stated above, but not quite sure he truly thinks that. They would never kill off the luxury line otherwise another company would come and take away all of that money, and it is a lot of money.

Regarding your #3.....This isn’t true as Tesla new inventory cars still being available for up to several months (or even longer as some have purchased new/demo cars that were 2-3 years old) after build had long been common in the U.S. and overseas. Although inventories are tight now for various reasons, Tesla doesn't "immediately" sell every car they build and I expect there will be an inventory buildup again in the coming months.

Regarding your #4.....Part of Tesla's "mission" is to be able to showcase performance (range, 0-60 times, top speed, horsepower, etc.) and other capabilities of the brand and the MS and MX remain very important in doing so. The mission is much more than just about selling cheap EVs as Tesla will continue to want to offer higher end models that customers can buy/move up to.
