To the original question on this thread. I think that is exactly it. Yes, you are giving Tesla $2500 interest free for an unspecified time, possibly years. In exchange, you get the possibility of an even better car than what is currently promised by the time they deliver to you the car that you requested. Your cost (assuming you would spend the $2500 on the car anyway) is opportunity lost for that $2500. A pretty small price to pay. My $2500 has already saved me $1000 because the price of full self driving has increased by that amount. What else might they throw into that package? Who knows?
