Why not automated drag strip launch mode? My tweet to Mr. Musk.

@ElonMusk @tesla It occurs to me a couple tenths of a second could be shaved off the Model S in Launch Mode if FSD could be employed to identify the drag strip's green light and launch on its own. Removes human reaction time. Cool new feature? :) :)

Sure as heck that feature wouldn't hurt Tesla's rep any, although it would probably tick off other drivers. LOL

You have to predict the green light time when drag racing if you want a good reaction time as the car has to start moving BEFORE the green light so that by the time the green light comes on the front tire is just leaving the beam. You have to adjust your launch time based upon how deeply you're staged as well, but always before the actual green light for a good reaction time.

It's would still be a fun feature to have and could be adjustable.

The system could read the cadence on the tree and adjust launch time accordingly. Not a problem.

When you drag race most street cars on the sportsman tree, you hit it on the 3rd yellow. The rollout, tires, and chassis absorb about .25s and the driver absorbs about .25s. On a pro-tree it's just YELLOW -> GREEN with a .400 delay, so most cars can't red-light.

If you have any kind of electronic system for launch timing, you can't enter most sportsman classes. If Tesla includes a tree reader in their code, you won't be allowed to compete in a Tesla most likely whether or not it has that code.

Thanks for that insight.
