OMGthinkIMgonnaFAINT a professional publication actually used the $70K number. Finally.
Very interesting article indeed!
Good article. Cool analogy with Kodak and the ICE market.
The companion piece is good too.
Gah, my eyes! The article has some sort of infatuation with randomly bolding so many sections that it's painful to read.
That was a great article.
Now that was a prophetic article! Especially the part about leaving the dealership model behind and selling online. Did Tesla really listen to this guy, or was he an inside man?
Ironically both Volt and Leaf probably beat S now with June numbers.
That is most certainly not the case.
Tesla Motors will show most certainly higher sales figures of the Tesla Model S for June and for YTD 2013 as well.

"Secondly, who says a traditional dealer is the right way to sell this vehicle to these people? Maybe it should be sold on-line, with somebody delivering the vehicle to the buyer and offering personalized instruction? Maybe it should be sold out of a Home Depot, or Staples, or Best Buy like an expensive appliance or computer? It's not clear to me that people, or companies, have much value for auto dealers - so perhaps this is the time to change the distribution system entirely -- and perhaps take a lot of cost out of auto distribution."
"There is a market for electric cars. Today. Just as the technology exists. And if White Space teams were allowed to find and develop that market, we could have a robust electric car industry in just a few years. But it won't happen via traditional approaches, from companies Locked-in to their traditional ways. Those companies only see obstacles, not opportunity. Without White Space, this will be just another example of a technology delayed."
The YTD perhaps, but I doubt the monthly.
If Tesla hits their target of 21,000 for the year, that is an average of about 1800/month. Both Leaf and Volt are well above that in June and both tend to have stronger sales in the fall. Volt sold 2225 in June and the Leaf was around 2600(?). I don't see anyway that Tesla delivered more than 2600 in June.
The Leaf and Volt are both less expensive cars and I would be shocked if Tesla could continue to beat their sales numbers. It would be like BMW outselling Camry.
That's right. I hereby apologise for the mistake. I think I mixed up some other sales figures with those of the Tesla Model S.
To correct myself: I think that the June sales figures of the Volt and the Leaf will be higher than those of the Tesla Model S.
And I expect the YTD 2013 sales figures of the Tesla Model S to be higher than those of the Volt and the Leaf.
YTD figures of all three seem to be just 20 cars of each other.
For the year 2013, both Leaf & Volt will easily outsell S in the US. Worldwide Leaf will have a large lead.
Gotta love Tesla's YTD %...
