I just recently started using a mobile hotspot. Problem is I always have to re-activate wi-fi whenever I start driving. Is there any way to leave it permanently on?

Are you saying there’s a possibility?

We could do with a checkbox per configured wifi network for "Stay connected to this network when the car is put into drive."

(Especially for when we would otherwise have to start paying for "premium" connectivity.)

Why do you think they disconnect your WiFi when in drive? Maybe a future update would be you can't reconnect to WiFi unless you are in Park so you have to pay for premium connectivity!

It's not when in drive at all times - it's a one-shot wifi disable event that occurs when you transition the car from park to drive. You can turn it back on but the point of this thead is that this is inconvenient when using a mobile hotspot.

I assumed they disable wifi when in drive so that it's not constantly looking for wifi spots thus using up power.

    Is WiFi controllable via voice?

Good question. According to this it is a voice command: open/close internet

It was actually because people complained about map/music issues as they left their home while it was still trying to use the WiFi as they drove away. @Ingineer mentioned that there is a flag on the WiFi profile that would allow it to stay connected when shifting into drive, but they never implemented a UI, or other method, to set it. (It can be set via root access, assuming it is still there.)

Somebody posted either here or on TOO about how they were an American, working either for Gov or Military overseas, and they are allowed to import the American vehicles (for American market) there. One of his problems was that due to it being a vehicle for America it was not capable of cell communication in Europe. Their remedy, that Tesla supposedly performed, was a hidden setting that they access that left WiFi always enabled, so that he could connect it to his hotspot and it be a seamless experience for him. Not sure if I can find the post.. but if what he said was true it's at least a possibility
