Considering all of the ills caused by driving an ICE vehicle, with all due respect, I'm sure many would think she should reconsider her position.

After almost 5 years of both my wife and I only driving EVs, an inconvenience such as described, is infrequent imo.

I agree. It just sucks that it had to happen to her the very first time she ever took the car where she needed to supercharge by herself. Well not quite by herself. She was with her sister. An hour before, I had just finished explaining why supercharging isn't any more time consuming than gassing up when you consider stopping for bathroom breaks. Needless to say, after that experience, she's convinced that it's not true and that I was just trying to sell it. Additionally, she'll end up telling everyone she knows in addition to her entire family. Really really bad PR.

Just got home from a 750 mile round trip. I always apologize for the "charging time and crap" to give her time to voice an opinion, but my wife doesn't mind the stops at all. We had a perfect destination charger that I wouldn't have even known existed without plugshare, and instead would have had to sink a couple hundred $$$ for hotel valet parking. On our SC stops this trip, we went furniture shopping, hung out in recliners in a Marriott lounge while she checked her work stuff on the WiFi, went to a casino, and loaded up on beverages at Trader Joe's. Before the Model S, on that same trip we've had to lose a night and crash at a hotel along the way. Now, I arrive at the end of each leg refreshed enough to write this.
I'm not sure what my point is. I'm guess just happy (and a little road weary).

The forum needs a button for "That sucks, I feel for ya." :-(

In my mind this just this reinforces the point that we're still early adopters of a new technology. Maybe she'll change her mind later after this stuff is more mainstream?

Bruce.

Your right, early adoptors of this new forum software that's missing that button.

Oh, your taking about the car?

I would normally agree. But so far every stations and every chargers I have been to never worked as advertised besides the ones I visited outside the states. And if you read my other posted in the CA supercharger problems you can see I have been to many of them and some multiple times at different stalls unsharing with any other teslas. If there was even 1 that worked I would say sure I might have really bad luck but there might be some that worked. My conclusion is few works as advertised.
Sounds like something is wrong with your car. I would take it to a service center.

Strange. This thread is the first I've heard about widespread Super Charger issues since I've been following Tesla over the last year. Just seems like if it was anywhere near as bad as you describe, that there would be more discussions about it on here.
I would check the charging infrastructure threads. I think most are moved there or consolidated there.

There are a few factors involved.

1) Only a fraction of people visit enthusiast forums.
2) Pride of ownership can make folk more forgiving.
3) Most people seldom remote recharge. It's done while they sleep or at work.
4) People seldom post on forums: "Everything Was Great Today!". However, they will post when disappointed, frustrated, or angry about something.

Huh. This has been an interesting thread. My wife doesn't love the car, but likes the acceleration sometimes and is overall OK with it. She isn't OK with the lengths of adventure I will put up with on long trips, mainly because she just hates long car trips. The main thing she really hates about the car that makes her say she regrets ever getting it is when I look at where the car is when she is out driving it--kind of a different issue.

As far as Supercharging, she doesn't mind that in general. She really hates car trips because she gets so stir-crazy and bored from sitting in a car, so she has actually said she likes the Supercharger breaks every couple of hours to get out and walk around and get some change of scenery.

As to the reliability argument, I have used 17 different Superchargers, about a few times each, and I've never seen a problem on any of them or had to move to another stall. Data point: none of them were in California.

Stopped at Manteca SC today and guess what I saw? An electrician working on 1a and 1b. He said he was just doing regular maintenance and was unaware of any issues. Not sure how long he was there, but he left about an hour after I arrived. Charging was super fast for me. All 9 stalls were full with one or two waiting. Busy day with no one reporting issues.
