The wifi in my house doesn't extend to my detached garage. I can buy a range extender or leave the car outside of the garage where the signal is stronger. Aside from downloading software updates, are there other reasons why having the stronger wifi signal is useful when the car is parked? Does my MS call its mother in Fremont every night to check in? Thanks.
Well, you get updates theoretically faster when you are on wifi (like you said). If your garage has bad cell signal, then being on wifi means your mobile access will also be better, but otherwise nothing special.
Wifi was promised but not available until a fairly recent software update--we got along just fine without it.
Your car will still get updates as you are driving around during the day so wouldn't really worry about it.
@dsm: Oooooh.....another reason to go for a drive! "Honey, I need to take the car and drive around for a while in order to get the new firmware update".
I added a wifi repeater since I can't get cell service in my house at all. The repeated gave me wifi connectivity to the car, it also let me use my cell phone in the garage and driveway area. So for me the car connectivity part was a bonus.
