Will the off-road tires reduce the range like 22s on MX?

I'm wondering if the 500 mile range of the tri motor will be subject to the *rated range reduced by 20% with these tires and rims language that the model X was subject to.

That'd be a real bummer, would hate to have to sissy up the CT to get 500 miles instead of 400.

    Thoughts?

I believe it will. Not everyone wants/needs the biggest offroad tires. Some will want road tires, some heavy duty trailering tires.

My bet: Road tires standard for highest range and quietest interior noise. All else optional with range degradation.

Heck it takes a lot of energy just to create the whine that off road tires create when on pavement.

For best efficiency, hard tires are desirable. Off-road are generally just the opposite.

Listening to the tire noise in the you tube videos I may prefer something quieter myself, I am sure most people will have little off-roading in the cybertruck, I am sure when time gets closer to manufacturing this beast we will have wheel and tire options, as well as interior options

I’m sure it will. I will shoot for a decent set of all terrains. I have never really seen a need for mud tires like the reveal. That tread pattern was Goodyear mtr kevlars.. they are louder than most mud tires even.

THIS is where being a lifelong truck person really benefits time, money, energy.

Of course. Off road tires take a ton of energy.

Same reduction in mileage for ICE trucks as well. That does not keep people from installing them though.

They look bad ass and would work great off road, but not something most would choose. Just the noise would prevent many from running the lugs on pavement.

Will the pig weight on these trucks favor an e load rated tire? Those bitches are heavy!

I figured it would reduce range, but was really hoping for the 500mile range with off road tires. What a beast it would be for road trips if you could slap high efficiency tires on there and get more range :)

I'm hoping for some type of all-terrain option (Falken Wildpeak A/T 3)...

Exactly! Then maybe Tesla would publish there own disclaimer after testing how much it will reduce efficiency like they did with the rims the OP posted about. That way we don't have to just roll the dice haha

When range is the perceived biggest drawback to EVs and the highest mileage model now is 370 and this is bigger it is foolish to speculate that the 500miles is anything but full efficiency setup.

The range reduction on the X with bigger wheels is from the tires, off-road tires on a Cybertruck are likely to be worse.

I hope so too, although I suspect that either means 500.1 miles or 501 miles. :)

500 miles itself is insane, no one comes close to this now.

I also think it will end up something like 525.

In fact all the range estimates are published that way

Agreed, no one comes close to this, but people will in 2 years when it's released.

Why off road tyres as you’re hopefully never gong into places that require off road tyres

^^^If I end up with one I’ll off road it hard. I’m hoping it comes with 35” and would be awesome if it will for a 36 or 37”. And like stated above It’s going to weight a lot and E rated LT tires for sure.
