As Yogi Berra said, predictions are difficult, especially about the future. However my S is almost 5 years old and I haven’t noticed any change in screen responsiveness.
smartphones get laggy for reasons such as the vendor slowing it down to preserve battery life, not because the touchscreen is less responsive. Or maybe the very latest software rev needs more horsepower.
But there is nothing that will “wear out” to slow it down
A general computer programming axiom is that code always expands to fill all available memory. A corollary is that computers slow down over time because they are asked to do more and more tasks than what was originally designed. So you're right in saying new software tends to need more computing power. However, there is usually one item in smartphones that does "wear out" over time; flash memory. Flash has a certain amount of times each memory cell can be re-written; roughly around 10,000 times. Granted, you'll probably upgrade / lose / damage the phone before you'll ever see evidence of bad memory but it can happen.
Until such time as the current 'flat' trend reverses and people start puttin' flashy 3D icons back and aero transparent borders, and... animated weather icons and.. you get the idea. While a relatively 'fixed' screen display in a car isn't as user-cruft'able as a phone.. one imagines that it *could* slow down over time. One hopes that the 'minimalist aesthetic' of the M3 continues with its display though.
The answer is Yes if Apple buys Tesla. In order to prevent your car from shutting down, they will have to force it to slow down everything, UI, top speed, acceleration, etc...
