Quick and simple here. I am curious as to whether folks think the yoke will be approved by the government?

I love it, but think it will not be approved.

As much as Tesla loves to “push the envelope” I seriously doubt those in the know at Tesla didn’t think to verify the legality of the steering Yolk beforehand...

The talked a lot about the camera wing mirrors, too.

This was my thought exactly. It reminded me of the “no side mirrors”.

I think Tesla interpreted the rules knowing it’s super easy for them to put a regular wheel on if needed.

It would be a clever PR move to publicize the yoke, get free PR for having the yoke, and then get even more free PR when NHTSA or someone says that they can't have it.

I saw on Twitter that the Model S was crash-tested with the yoke, so that's what they have to legally deliver.

I don't know if any of that is true.

If it was, that would be true. They learned that the hard way when they test crashed the Model S with the front license plate holder, and then they had to install the front license plate holder even if the state didn't require a front plate.

But of course they could have test crashed it with both the yoke and a normal wheel... We will just have to wait and see.

Fair point. Oddly, those items that are listed are options. Yoke steering is not an option...so, why is it listed?

That said, there are a bunch of people with "old X" order agreements that have now been modified significantly. The small print says it's all subject to change. I would LOVE to see it. We'll find out with the S as the refreshed ones are set to deliver in March - a month before the refreshed X.

Elon said that the new Ss would start being delivered in a couple weeks. So hopefully we see them sometime in mid-February.

Will it be difficult to feel for the touch buttons for the signal lights with gloves on?

I want trigger buttons at the top of the yoke for turn signals. then I'll be signaling left/right all day as I shoot planes down from the sky.

I tow a travel trailer with my X. I do wonder about the ease of backing the trailer into a spot with the yoke. Feel like I use every inch of the wheel when I do!

Yes, but was it the yoke that caused the crash for the test...

Too much speculation and emotion. The law does not eliminate the yoke explicitly. Will see what the final verdict is. I hope Tesla wins/

Excited to get our S and X with the yoke.
