Windshield crack on my Tesla X

Does Tesla repair cracked windshield or do I reach out to a third party. I have insurance for it. It has cracked more than a dollar bill. I have a Tesla X.

It'll be a replacement if bigger than a dollar bill. Personally I'd shell out the coin to have Tesla do it.

Tesla usually subs out windshield repairs to national installation companies.

Just got it replaced by Tesla. Fully covered by Geico.

Check with insurance before reaching out directly to Tesla. Some insurance allow you to go direct while others through a third party (e.g. Nationwide).

Who ever you go to, make sure they are Tesla certified as it‘s a complex job. The camera‘s need to be re-aligned so that they can calibrate themselves correctly etc. etc. etc.
This is not a job for uncle Nunzio around the corner...

Just FYI, Progressive has free crack repair. Well for me anyways. They use safelight to come and put resin in it. But yeah, dollar bill, that's huge.

How can one „repair“ a crack in a windshield???? Resin might stabilize a small crack but it does not „repair“ it.

Do you know what caused the crack? Road debris? If you are not sure, Tesla might repair it for free.

Thanks for the tip, how did you schedule it? Mine has a small star shaped crack and I was going to repair it using the rain x repair kit but if someone else does it for free that's better.

I believe that many, if not most, auto insurance companies pay to repair/fill tiny chips in the windshield without requiring you to pay your deductible. If you do want to pay yourself for some reason, my windshield place charges $35 per chip retail.

I had a small star crack in lower part of windshield, but it was growing. A shop drilled a hole right in the center an inserted epoxy. Amazing save it was, and I don't notice it at all.

Now I have the ClearPlex kit installed, and can ride comfortably knowing it's protecting the giant screen I love. Example of a protected hit are in photos.

I went on progressive dot com and clicked on chip repair. I think you schedule your appt right there and then with safelight if I'm not mistaken. And then safelight comes out to your house.... good luck
