We were doing a long distance highway drive a couple of weeks ago, we heard something, and all of a sudden a large 20 inch crack appeared in the windshield, radiating from the edge of the windshield. There was nobody ahead of us, but just assumed that somehow something must have hit the windshield to start the crack.
Tesla gave me an estimate of around $1350 to replace the windshield. Took it in to have them replace the windshield, and when they returned the car they said that their technician decided that it was a stress fracture crack, and was covered at no-charge under warranty.
Very pleasant surprise that it was covered under warranty, although potentially a little disturbing that we have potential for these types of windshield stress fractures...
