Colorado in the winter is Nordic like - minus the free healthcare...;)
Depends exactly where. I lived in Denver and remember more dry days than wet/snow days. The upcoming forecast for December has 2 days of snow, 1 of rain, and the rest of sunshine.

...i do miss that tons.

The "free" federal healthcare here cost me 2x the effective tax rate, and does not include dental coverage, so it's not all roses ;)

Did you include cost of healthcare? Long term care? Time off for having kids. Retirement. Homeless rates. Some countries that’s all baked into the tax rate. Among other things.

It’s funny that this list correlates with yours (I didn’t check them 1 by 1) with the happier countries.

How Happy is Your Country? According to the UN, These are the 10 Happiest Countries in the World

I think Colorado is pretty happy right about now, its 430 MST right? ;) I am all for people who don't like it here moving out.

Any list that tries to rank something as vague and qualitative as "happiness" is bound to be flawed. If you lived amongst Austrians for years like I did, or even heard the stereotypes, they're known to be pretty miserable :D :D. (And I put Colorado up for highest QOL and happiest people amongst anywhere)

But more seriously, this entire topic of taxes v socialism v happiness is obviously very nuanced and too complex to unpack in a forum.

All I can suggest is that is scale plays a gigantic role -- as of course Tesla Inc has been finding out. Canada is the most populous country on that list, and it is just 11% of the US. Proper governance is and resource allocation for 100M+ people is a mess.....

but anyway we are verging into dangerous territories. how about that cybertruck?

So it was these?

Model 3 18" Aero Wheel and Winter Tire Package
  • 4 x 18X8.5J Aero wheels
  • 4 x 235/45/18 - PIRELLI WINTER SOTTOZERO™ tires
  • 4 x tire pressure sensors
View attachment 480603
The Tesla 18" winter package comes with Sottozero IIs. The Sottozero 3s are noticeably better. That said, they're both performance winter tires, and do give up some ultimate snow/ice traction to the best studless winter tires out there like the R3s, Xice, and Blizzaks. They also handle and stop better on dry and wet roads than the studless winter tires, and have tremendously better steering feel. Depending on your winter driving conditions, you may prefer one compromise versus the other. All tires are a compromise.

Oh, look at Fig 2.7, the most important category is "dystopia", since it varies the widest and is the biggest of the 7 categories. Seems like alot of fudging can happen in a category like "dystopia".

Denmark is #2. Didn't 60 Minutes report on Denmark as the World's Happiest Country and the reason they concluded that was because Danes have low expectations, so are the most easily satisfied. Doesn't sound very happy to me.

Finland is #1!?! The alcoholism rate is sky-high in Finland, maybe drinking makes you happy? Personally, I think it's indicative of unhappiness, but I didn't make the survey!

Oh, an econ prof of mine, Jeffrey Sachs, wrote Chap 7, so it's all good.

Got it an hour ago. Car is in winter storage though so let it install but I’m thinking I’ll have a lot to play with in March :p

WHY is your car in winter storage? EVs are amazing for the winter. None of the noise and steam and smell when warming up the car (remotely!), a joy to be in etc etc. Get some winters on there and get driving.

I've driven my model 3 performance through driving snow in -20F weather with snow tires, it's amazing in the snow. Left all the trucks who are struggling in the fresh snow. Get that car out on the road!

It's this time of year that makes me wish I lived in Minnesota again and had winter tires on (only for a minute, mind... because... well... Minnesota).

P3D+ with no interest in buying snow tires. My Tesla is my Autocross car and Spring-Fall fun daily driver, I change wheel/brakes/suspension configuration enough that I loathe corroded bolts. I have other vehicles to choose from that I already have snow tires for so if I don’t have to subject it to getting beat up in the winter then I don’t do it, if it were the only way for me to own one then sure I would drive it year round. I drive my fun cars extremely hard and literally nothing about winter driving excites me. My winter beater IS an EV... sorta. It’s a Chevy Volt and with workplace charging, I live close enough to not use gas even in the winter on snow tires.

A Volt???? Nothing about winter driving would excite me in a Volt, that’s for sure.

Or Spring driving. Or Summer driving. Or Fall driving.

Or any driving.

So I’m out driving around in our 4th snowfall of the year in my first year of my ownership of my model 3....

I didn’t post about this at first because I couldn’t believe it was happening, but my model 3 oversteers in the snow! With traction control doing it on purpose.

it’s a little but off putting at first...then you realize you’re perfectly in control....

And it’s quite a beautiful thing. Traction control seems to dial in just the amount of oversteer you’re asking for based on where the wheels are pointed. I’ve never driven a vehicle where I could elicit such behavior with traction control on. So much fun!

WTG Tesla. My Model 3 isn’t perfect but it’s gems like these that make me love this car.

Thoughts please.

I have a SR+ on order and plan to keep my 09 Subaru Forester with snow tires for big snow days.

There are claims here that the Performance with Track Mode enabled is the best way to handle the snow. The Track Mode allegedly gets rid of the "snaking" that allegedly happens with the AWD vehicles.

But no experience myself, so no idea. Here are some related discussions. Your post has apparently been moved to this master thread. Anyway, they are heated discussions:
