Wisconsin Buyer - Handling of Sales Tax When Picking Up in Illinois

Hello -

I live in Wisconsin and understand that when I purchase my MY I will need to travel to Illinois to pick it up as Wisconsin does not allow for direct sales from the manufacturer. To those of you in Wisconsin or with similar experience in other states:

• How is sales tax handled in this situation?
• Will I be paying sales tax in Illinois or Wisconsin?
• Will I have the option to pay tax at time of purchase (so I can include in financing)?
• If paid to Wisconsin, would I have to pay it at time of registration or declare (and pay) when I file my state taxes?

I may need to finance the tax with the MY loan (I know, obviously not the preferred route), so any tips on how to handle that will be appreciated. Thanks!

You pay taxes where the car is registered so in your case you’ll pay Wisconsin taxes. When you submit your order it will show you all your taxes and fees with the total amount.
