Wisconsin owners-did you order on-line or go out of state for purchase?

What should one do? Driving out of state might be a pain but being able to see the vehicle prior to purchase and pick up possible "bugs"/misalignments/paint flaws prior to finalizing the deal might avoid the dreaded visit to the Tesla service centers.

Chicago area and Minneapolis area are the two choices for most of the state. Do these locations keep "new" stock for purchase?

Some and Chicago is a also a distribution hub, so even though I ordered through Minneapolis, they set me up to get a car more quickly from a Chicago, since my M3 was locally at the distribution hub. I traded in an old Accord via a price match with CarMax and drove it to Chicago and traded it in.

I don’t really follow your question... No matter how you order you can see the car before paying. Even if you order online. Just don’t pay ahead of time. It’s that’s simple. I showed up in IL with a cashiers check and that was that.

This is relevant for Michigan buyers as well, or perhaps even more with the additional ban on service centers in the state, but I bought online and took the train to Chicago and picked up my car there. They picked me up at the train station and brought me to the Tesla store. Granted that was 2.5 years ago...but it's generally the same today. Picked up in IL as the drive back across Ohio did not sound very appealing as my first "road trip" with the Tesla.

Like others, I ordered online, worked with an Inside Delivery Specialist for home delivery. Car was built and shipped to Chicago within 2 weeks. Did all of the paperwork over the phone/Email and online. No haggle trade-in done online with Tesla. They had a carrier deliver my M3 to my house, picked up my trade in and was gone in about 20 minutes. I did a thorough twice over on the car and approved my delivery with the Inside Delivery Specialist. If we had found anything they would have sent out a mobile tech to take care of it, they said. About 2 weeks after the M3 arrived I got a packet of papers from Tesla via FedEx with WI registration partially filled out and the Certificate of Origin. Went to the DMV paid the registration / title /plate fees and taxes. Done! Super laid back process, would do it again.

I'm happy to hear your success. If one is from Northern Wisconsin, then is Minnesota an option?

I reached out to the Chicago Highland Park location to have the family do test drives and make sure they were onboard. I would imagine if you reach out to the MN location and let them know you want to take delivery through them they may be able to work that out for you. Generally though from what I have heard Tesla tries to find the most efficient route to you getting your car. I've also heard that in WI they are delivering a lot of WI cars right to your house since they do not have a sales license in WI. Everyone I have talked to through the process has been super helpful and straightforward.

One thing to add... I'm north of Green Bay to give you an idea of location and situation.

We ordered online. Picked up at Highland Park, Illinois Delivery Center. We arranged a hassle free trade in on our 2013 Ford C-Max. Everything went well. No regrets, no problems.

Michigan has done a beautiful job, by not allowing direct sales, of training us to just use online buying in the future. Certainly didn’t miss all the usual dealership negotiating fun and games. This was about a year ago and the whole delivery experience was exciting and fun. So far Zero problems with the Tesmeralda our Model 3.
