Tesla’s Giga Shanghai reopened Monday after being temporarily shut down as China works to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Reuters reported Friday that the factory would reopen on Monday with assistance from the Chinese government. The factory has been closed since the end of last month.

“In view of the practical difficulties key manufacturing firms including Tesla have faced in resuming production, we will coordinate to make all efforts to help companies resume production as soon as possible,” Xu Wei, a spokesman for Shanghai’s municipal government, told Reuters.

News reports and social media posts from Shanghai on Monday showed employees arriving at the factory for work. It’s good news for the Chinese people and Tesla, but it’s not expected that the factory will return to full speed immediately.

Tesla has already announced that Model 3 deliveries in China slated for February will be delayed.

Giga Shanghai was off to a fast start before the shutdown, having completed the factory and delivered a first run of cars in about a year. Tesla eventually plans to build both the Model 3 and Model Y at the Shanghai factory. The company hopes to ramp up production to 250,000 units next year.
