Wouldn’t it be cool if sentry mode showed a video feed?

Even if it cost a little more for data (Tesla needs the money anyway) it would be neat to see a feed from the car cameras.

A basic application would be to see if a level 2 charger opens up as an example as your car can face it.

And for thieves considering breaking in - why not show their movements?

Thugs that mess with your car wouldn’t appreciate the coolness of Hal or some eye of Sauron *sugar* following them around.

Elon tweeted out that current Sentry Mode isn’t even considered 1.0, and there are lots of new features coming along. That was the response to a guy asking if the app can show the video feed.

Completely agree. Most thieves won’t even get the HAL9000 reference. Whereas live feeds from all active cameras with big red words “recording” will get the point across.

Pretty sure they're not supposed to get the reference, but to make sure they know they're being recorded. A terrible job at that, I hope they make the RECORDING font bigger and make the camera(HAL) more noticeable.

If Tesla wants a revenue stream it'd be to have a monthly subscription for cloud upload/storage of video that you could view remotely. Other dashcams offer this already

Displaying the video on the car as it's being captured is a bad idea though for several reasons, among them:

1) It lets thieves quickly figure out where/when they're NOT visible

2) You'd get idiots who aren't trying to break in but just walking past suddenly see themselves on the screen and, well, be idiots....wasting time and storage (and possibly attracting more idiots around your car)

What would be cool is a phone alert then let me use the phone to call the car and broadcast my voice to the would-be intruders... "You're being recorded, calling the cops". Ought to scare most of them off.

There are many data hungry features I’d like to see Tesla add, and bundle in a monthly “premium connectivity” package, and this is definitely high on my personal wishlist.

Also being able to browse websites that use video plug-ins, eg being able to check on my home surveillance or nanny cam. And possibly YT or Netflix.

Unfortunately Tesla would have to significantly overcharge to make it a revenue stream. The $100/yr thrown around previously was just to cover their AT&T costs.
