When Tesla started selling cars there was NO federal subsidy. Tesla did not ask for the subsidy, GM did. GM is the one who begged for the subsidy to keep selling EVs.

Just like GM insisted on huge subsidy before making EV1 then trashing that investment (including production equipment) taxpayers paid for. GM did that as soon as GM got the EV requirement removed in California.

The biggest subsidies go to the oil & gas industry. Also they are allowed to slowly poison us all with pollutants and never pay for the medical costs we are saddled with as a result of the poisons.
