Look what just showed up at IAA - 683! 2010 Tesla Roadster, 25207974 | IAA-Insurance Auto Auctions She looks dusty, but in good shape. No life on the dash...
I’m sad but happy, I don’t think having 2 identical cars will go over well at my place but I hope it gets sold and recharged quickly. Not like 994 that went around in circles for months.
We should all put an OVMS on our cars. Then we can locate the cars with our iPhones if they are 'misplaced.'
Yes, I was just notified this week by my insurance company that #683 was recovered in San Antonio, Texas! It's now owned by Mercury Insurance and up for auction. Mercury has the valet key and a standard key.
I wonder what happened. Some idiots joy rided it then abandoned it when the battery was depleted? Sad.
I thought it was stolen while being delivered on a truck, so either stolen with the truck or with its trailer? Did they even manage to drive it without the key?
I gave the valet and spare to the new owner, the truck driver left the other key in the driver's seats of all the cars (seems like a great idea!)
Sadly, this feels all too familiar with shipping Roadsters. I’m not sure if it’s coincidence with shipping open vs. closed or not, but I’d imagine you get what you pay for. The first time I shipped a Roadster open-carrier, it arrived with 4 extra miles on it and in Performance Mode. The driver had clearly launched it at some point. The second time? This particular driver refused to bring his truck directly to my home (despite promising he would), and instead decided to drive the car 42.6 miles to me. This time, I pulled the logs to prove it & he was fired three days later + the shipping cost refunded. From then on, I have never shipped a Roadster for less than the best-reviewed enclosed carriers possible. The $1,400+ price is always worth it. Hopefully someone can bring 683 back to life and keep one of VERY few Brilliant Yellow Roadsters on the road.
I agree..I paid $1500 for #683 to be shipped enclosed from FL to CA. For my replacement #1339 I had it shipped (fully enclosed) as well from San Francisco to Orange County. I highly recommend Troy Car Inc for anyone looking for a carrier. AVOID Montway Auto Carrier! They are a broker and use shady truckers--the cars weren't fully enclosed. Montway and the trucking company refused to pay me for the stolen roadster so I had to go through my insurance carrier.
Ugh, couldn't agree more. I had them lined up for my car and the communication was so suspect I bailed on them at the last minute and ate the deposit.
I used Plycar and couldn't be happier with the experience. $2200 to ship enclosed from San Francisco to New York.
