someone posted awhile back complaining that tesla charged them to replace a non-working keyfob on a vehicle under warranty.
I just had the Tesla mobile service guy out to do some recall service items and told them when they called to setup the appointment that one of our keyfobs was dead.
The tech checked it out when he was here, verified that the replacement battery I had installed was at the correct voltage, and decided it must be the fob. He replaced it and there was no charge. This is a July 2018 X.
So - if you need a new keyfob, ask around.
