Yet another Battery Technology, by another CA Billionaire

The good doc has been making the rounds today, NY Times, business pubs of all sort, hawking this Zinc/Oxygen battery. Says he has 1000 installs. Not much detail on the battery but the guy (SA born as well?) has the money to back a battery plant. The cost, $100/kWh would be a breakthrough for sure. Thoughts?

Fire Away!

Not a new concept. They have been using Zink/air batteries in hearing aids for over 20 years.

Advantage is that they can be stored for a long time, but when a seal is removed, and air get to it, they start fresh.

Usually not rechargable, but used till dead and thrown away.

He may be on to something here.

The website was ...basically a powerpoint and lacking in details. However, someone at Duke Energy was positive, that's not a lightweight reference. They don't discuss how they enable the recharging. Was hoping others, more savvy than I could comment.

One of my thoughts was he's just positioning the company to grab VW penalty monies. The website specifically mentions diesel offset. Seemed stupid, why only mention diesel not hydrocarbon, not gas, but diesel.

Zinc Air Flow Battery - google this phrase.

Seems great potential for electrical storage. You'll find many fine articles and companies to read about.
When will the break out year start?
Old coal plants and reactor sites would seem fine locations as they have the power lines, right??
