Anyone who is really worried about the MOT and living close to a Tesla centre: have a chat with your local Tesla centre to see where they are getting their MOT performed. That way, you'll know that the MOT garage have seen plenty of Tesla cars before and thus, are likely to know what to do. If not close to a Tesla centre, bring the MOT guidance and offer to help out if they are confused about anything.

The good thing is that Tesla cars are no longer that rare so the knowledge is getting more wide-spread at MOT garages

Sometimes TPMS can be damaged during the tyre removal, which they'll normally replace with another. Just be aware that with newer 3/Y they now communicate by Bluetooth, so may need to be official part. Also check your tyre valve caps in case they forget to move your existing over. Generally the biggest problem I’ve found is the suspension drop test where not all places have wide enough support bars on lift for wide track vehicles such as S/X.

One that is recommended that does carry out MOT's to Teslas is Cleevely - Cleevely Electric Vehicles | Electrical Vehicles | Gloucestershire

They are base in Cheltenham but also go out to visit areas (Ther eTwitter feed mentioned they went up to Scotland and did a round of fixes up there)

Also just search EV MOT "in your area" on google. I have 3 places in Leicester that carries out works to EV's and they have all done Teslas.

This one in Leicester does works (inc MOTs) to Teslas - Electric Vehicle specialist | eTech Midlands | Leicester

Should only take 30-45 mins (or less) to do an MOT on an EV (My WIfes Kia Diesel tool 45mins the other day)

You could also be lucky and get them to plug it in while they carry out the MOT and you drink your Coffee!!

I’m looking for an MOT for my MX in Cambridgeshire. Anyone know of a place that has seen a Tesla at least once before? I have visions of someone lifting the bonnet to check the oil and failing it because the engine is missing.

Cleevey "mobile-serviced" my Teslas - on my drive, very convenient :) Highly recommended.

Don't suppose they can do an MOT on my drive though! When I took the original Model-S for MOT at Halfords they seemed to know everything they had to do etc. although hadn't done Model-S before ... got a phone call "It won't fit on our 4-post lift" ... it would fit on any of the other ones in their workshop, just not the one that was authorised for MOT ... and they are only allowed to use THAT one for MOT ... so I had to find somewhere else.

Just seen a YouTube that Cleevey has posted. A 7 day trip touring round Scotland fixing and servicing EVs. I found it interesting what sorts of things James has to fix ... and the fact that he seemed to have all the parts that he might need with him - Teslas, Leafs, all sorts.

Shows what can be done in terms of servicing an EV without needing and actual workshop space.

... I know it's just a joke ... but they don't check the oil at an MOT! In fact they didn't used to check anything related to the engine until they started requiring emissions checks (except maybe dripping copious amounts of oil) ... so the joke still works if they were looking for an exhaust pipe but found it wasn't there! 😁

MOT - Passed

One thing they did note:

Monitor and repair if necessary (Advisories)
Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (Offside Rear Upper) [5.3.4(a)(i)]

Is that worth a "Tesla" Warranty issue? - Seems a bit young to just be worn out at 3 years!

Sounds like it's worth a try. I know Renault will repair worn out bearings under warranty so it sounds like a valid warranty claim but it probably depends very much on the degree of wear.

Did you use any of the previous checklists and have anything to remove or add?

No check list used. The place I took it to, the owner has a M3P so that probably helped.
