Interesting article which explains why EEstor hooked up with Zenn instead of a larger car company:

Why EEstor Hooked Up With Zenn Earth2Tech

Clifford tells the paper that last year EEstor was raising development funding for its untested technology by selling licences to the rights for various applications; Zenn paid $2.5 million for the rights to use the tech for small- to mid-size cars, and then invested another $2.5 million into the energy storage maker.

Clifford says Zenn had the opportunity because the big automakers wanted to make safer bets on more well-tested technology than EEstor’s. In addition, both companies had cultures of being young and passionate. In describing the EEstor deal to the Globe and Mail, Clifford said:

“We were willing to take the risk when no one else would. Part of it was a leap of faith, part was due to diligence…We were like angel investors, in at the ground floor, able to negotiate a strategic agreement which, when they commercialize, will creative a massive global opportunity.”

"(As the batteries continue to be used, the car's range should increase to up to 35 miles.)"

Wow, physics must work differently in New Jersey!

Damn straight, that's why nobody likes this state, our different physic laws are always messing the traditional ones up . That lady in the article actually lives like 5 minutes away from me, I didn't realize there were electric cars in NJ .

Going back to that statement, I'm wondering if it is like a reverse of when you overcharge your phone battery or start charging it after way (the memory factor thing)? That or the journalist is just a moron (which wouldn't surprise me ).

EEStor patent reveals details of ultracap..., but do they have a working prototype?

New Patent Reveals Details of EEStor’s Ultracapacitor Technology : Gas 2.0

"Apparently one EESU weighs 281 pounds, has a volume of 2.63 cubic feet, can be fully charged in 3-6 minutes, is completely unaffected by temperature, will not explode or catch fire in an accident, and provides 52 kWh of electricity (nearly the same amount of energy the Tesla Roadster battery can hold, which reportedly takes the Roadster about 240 miles)."

Journalists, reporters and editors are not exactly known for being brilliant. Look at their career choices and the industry they are in. It has been obvious for a long time that print newspapers and magazines are on a dead end path to bankruptcy. Yet these twits still thought it was a good idea to go massively into debt with student loans for a journalism degree.

Prototypes of what exactly?
Some powder only or whole functioning ultracap?

Dick Weir CEO of EESTOR made the comment that prototypes exist to the blogger with the bag over his head. No one outside Dick Weir's fantasy world has seen any working prototypes. EESTOR has been scamming people since 2004. The following is from UFTO:
"A number of major companies have said they would issue a purchase order quickly if specs are met.
The company is currently seeking equity investment of $3.5 million. A business plan is available.

Evidently specs have not been met.

How come Tesla did not sign with EESTOR to supply the ceramic batteries?

I can answer this question. Tesla is taking the approach of finding the cheapest and most well known/tested battery cells for their cars, which means commodity cells. Unlike many of the other EV companies that popped up, Tesla is actually building cars, so they can't rely on batteries which are not going to be ready until a few years down the road (if at all). Even for the projected 300 mile pack on the Model S, their projections are based on specs of higher capacity 18650 cells which have existed for a couple of years already.

ZENN Motor Company's Strategic Partner, EEStor, Inc., Announces Permittivity Results

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 22, 2009) - ZENN Motor Company ("ZMC") (TSX VENTURE:ZNN) a leading developer of zero emission transportation solutions, is pleased to confirm that its energy storage partner, EEStor, Inc., issued a press release today announcing permittivity results of the manufacturing-grade chemicals to be used in their Electrical Energy Storage Unit (EESU).

Austin-based EEStor, Inc. disclosed that it has exceeded expectations on the key milestone of permittivity testing, notably the attainment of a relative permittivity of at least 22,500 for its patented and patent-pending Composition Modified Barium-Titanate Powders, the key material in their energy storage technology. ZENN Motor Company is currently reviewing the results as it relates to its Technology Agreement with EEStor.

"The permittivity results as indicated are beyond the specifications outlined in our technology agreement which is extremely encouraging," stated Michael Bergeron, VP of Engineering, ZENN Motor Company. "We will review these results and expect to announce our findings as soon as they are available."

"EEStor's announcement reveals continued progress in developing their Electrical Energy Storage Unit," said Ian Clifford, Chief Executive Officer of ZENN Motor Company. "We remain focused on fulfilling our cityZENN and ZENNergyTM drivetrain programs, the first implementations of EEStor's EESU.

ZENN: Trust us, the EESTOR thing is totally cool, like $700,000 cool

Hype maintenance can be hard work. Following the Earth Day announcement that the EEStor ultracapacitor had passed independent tests that showed it had a relative permittivity of 22,500, the automaker most closely tied to the secretive company, ZENN, has come out to say two things. First, the test results have been verified. There are a whole heap of details on the verification process in the release after the jump. Second, ZENN says that the results mean it will pay EEStor another $700,000 U.S. "in accordance with the Technology Agreement between the two companies."
