Service Center Nightmares

Documenting my experience here so people will know just how bad these service centers are. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone from Tesla will see it.

I took delivery of my Cybertruck on March 21 after a delay from the original date of March 9 because of a failed PCS. Within hours of delivery I created a service request with 5 issues.
1. Rail Dust
2. Adhesive smudged all over the center tail light
3. Scuff on the plastic trim at the top of the tailgate
4. Left rear seat belt is twisted
5. Glove drawer linkage falls off and the drawer itself will fall out on hard acceleration

I received an appointment in Tampa for about 2 weeks after delivery. In the meantime I took care of the first two issues myself and posted a note to that effect in the service chat.

On the appointed day I went to the service center, dropped the truck off and left in a loaner Model S. The estimated time of completion was the same day.
Late that afternoon I checked the app and found that the completion time had been moved to 3 days later without telling me. I needed to tow my boat the next day so I sent a message that I needed to pick up the truck the next morning. At 9am the next day I picked it up, no work had been done, and they rescheduled the appointment for the next week.

The day before the next appointment, they sent a message saying that they did not have the parts and were rescheduling the appointment again. The day before the third appointment I checked the app to confirm the time and noticed that the appointment was in St. Petersburg, 40 miles away, at 7am. I did not make that choice, Tesla did. But I honored the appointment because Tampa had been so bad. I arrived at 7am on the appointed day, April 23, and dropped off the truck. This time the estimated completion was 3 days out. I had stated in the app chat and reiterated in person that I was leaving on April 27 for a week out of the country, so the truck had to be done and picked up or their loaner Model X would sit at my house until I returned. I sent another reminder to that effect on the afternoon of April 25. The next morning I received a message stating that the work would not be finished so I said to prepare the truck for pickup. I arrived at the St. Petersburg service center an hour later to pick up the truck and discovered that no work had been done!

The truck has spent 4 full days sitting in 2 different service centers and none of these 3 simple repairs has even been started. At that point I asked for the contact information for the regional director so that I could report this issue. They called out Matt, the manager for St. Petersburg and he flatly refused to provide any information. He took another 10 minutes of my time, saying thing like he didn't want to keep my car and he wanted me to be driving it. But he had no explanation for why it sat for 3 days without work even starting and was not even aware of that fact before I called for him. I got nowhere with him so I simply left.

Upon checking the app later in the day, I discovered that almost all of the history of these two visits is gone from the app. Everything from the St. Petersburg visit is gone and only the invoice from the Tampa visit remains. The chat history is gone and the invoice states "Customer did not authorize repairs."

This morning I opened a new service request and found the next appointment in Tampa is 21 days out. So I scheduled for Sarasota, 53 miles away, for 8 days out. Maybe the third service center will be the charm.

Parking Brake Degraded and Automatic Vehicle Hold Disabled

Model 3 LR 2022 with only 8,400 miles and I have been getting the following alert errors on every other drive this past week.
EPBL_a179 Parking brake functions degraded
DI_a246 Automatic vehicle hold disabled

Has anyone recently had this issue or know what the solution was to get it to stop?

Opened a service request in the LA area but they have no appointments for a week. Over the service chat I requested a remote diagnostic, but it has been days without any update...

Understanding PGE/SVCE electricity bills/TrueUP

We are fairly new to our solar/PWs--PTO with PG&E as of end of October 2020. We've been on an EVA2 rate plan due to charging our Teslas at home (Non-peak midnight - 3pm) Our city for some time now has been opted in to electrical generation service through Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) like many residents in the SF Bay Peninsula and South County area. We had received our "final" electrical bill from PG&E covering the period up to PTO last month; and just the other day received 1) our PG&E "blue bill" for electrical usage under our NEM2 solar/storage device billing, as well as 2) a black and white multi-page monthly statement showing PG&E distribution along with SVCE generation charges.

Being new to all this we called PG&E and SVCE to better understand how billing would be done from now on. We were told we will be getting our Monthly "blue bill" from PG&E which we should pay from. We will also be receiving from PG&E a monthly statement (with calculations) reflecting our usage and charges or credits from SVCE's generation (not a bill just a statement).

Our PG&E TrueUp is November of each year; and SVCE does a TrueUp in April of each year at which time a check for any credit overage will be sent according to limits etc of their plan. PG&E will allow you a one-time change to your TrueUp if requested (we'll likely wait a whole year to see how things go. Since we don't get our generation from PG&E, not sure TrueUp time really matters that much).

Our PG&E blue bill for electricity is minimal, basically fees and distribution charge. Our B&W statement reflected our current credits since no electricity was needed from the grid (8.16kW system, gas furnace). SVCE, unlike PG&E, calculates credits at the same rate as they would charge for usage (per Peak, Partial Peak, Non-Peak hours).

Curious how those with both PG&E and SVCE combined service have faired and whether there is anything else we should understand about the new billing. Thanks.

Supercharger - Las Vegas, NV (Durango Rd, NW Las Vegas)

Looks like yet another NW Supercharger here in Las Vegas per MarcoRP. 6480 Kevin Way, Las Vegas, NV 89149. I know that brings up a residential area but MarcoRP is showing the empty lot behind the CubeSmart Self Storage (Durango & Centennial).

12 stalls is awesome! The newest one on Trop is already seeing a ton of action and has 8 stalls so the more the merrier. I also saw that the new Tivolli Village chargers are almost done, I'll try to stop by them this weekend.

30 Amp RV Outlet Question

So camping with the Tesla, it was a 30 Amp RV hookup:

Screenshot 2024-05-27 at 11.11.58 AM.png

I had my TMC with the 50 Amp 14-50 pigtail that came with it. I was given this adapter by a friend to use:

Screenshot 2024-05-27 at 11.23.57 AM.png

(Amazon Link)

When I got there, I tried it and the charger got no power...I tried several neighboring 30 AMP hookups, with no luck. Then the camp let me move to a 50 Amp spot and I was able to plug directly in with success. So I deduced it to the adapter (?)

So next time I get a 30 Amp hookup with this outlet, how can I make it work with the TMC?

What cameras does a '17 S 75D cone with?

Hey guys😊 It'll still be 10 days or so before I get my new used car which will be my daily driver, but I’m wondering what cameras it has in it, as far as being able to see what’s going on around your car. I looked into it a little bit and they both just had rear cameras. I was thinking there were side cameras as well though. I would love to have a front camera because this thing is going to be a pretty tight fit in my garage and I will have to take it close to the wall every time. Anyway thank you for clearing this up for me and sorry for the run-on paragraph

How do these lugs work on the latest Wallbox EVSE?

Spamming the TMC brain trust, since I have no clue who else to spam. Some Mercedes EQ vehicles now come with a free Wallbox EVSE. Unfortunately, it doesn't have normal screw/hex/torx lugs for the conductors (L1, L2, GND). Instead, it has what you see in the images below (potato chip for scale). Does anyone recognize how you're supposed to get your copper conductor properly inserted?

No joke, the Wallbox installation manual and the MB-USA installation guide just tell you to get a qualified electrician to do the install. Contacting Wallbox support just gets someone who sends a PDF for the previous-gen Wallbox instructions that has normal lug screws (philips).

My neighbor is a former electrician, and he's said he's never seen this. There are no instructions on how to use these lugs. There's also no other min-busbar or other bracket in the box. No extra lug hardware or anything in the package.

Our hypothesis is that Mercedes actually wants you to go through specific installers who actually have the hardware necessary to affix conductors to these lugs. Kind of like getting a lock for free, but no key. Or maybe there are some bullet termination ends we're supposed to crimp on and jam in there? Very weird.

Edit; tagging @wwhitney because he knows everything...

main panel has 30 amp to garage panel, what are the options

If a main electrical panel in the house has 30 amp breaker labeled GARAGE, does that mean garage will get max of 30 amp - and I assume if any garage light is turned on during charging, breaker will trip?

Wanting to install wall connector in the detached garage soon. The sub panel in garage only has 2 breakers >> 1x 15 amp GFI and 1x 15 amp lights breaker. Would the solution be replacing the 30 amp breaker in the main panel to a bigger one? How many amps?

Supercharging.Life database

Supercharging.Life is a relational database for the Superchagers Visited competition. Completed in the summer of 2022, it replaces the Google Sheets approach used for the last couple of years. This thread also largely supersedes the Superchargers visited 3.0 thread.

The database focuses on enabling competitors to register check-ins to track their visits to new-to-them superchargers. At launch, it provides a rudimentary map for each competitor to see nearby chargers they need to visit as well as those they already have visited. The power of these maps is that they are dynamic and include the latest data. There is also a link to a new Tableau site with more elegant visualizations, but Tableau does not allow automatic connections so the site has to be updated manually.

Supercharging.Life leverages data from Supercharge.Info and we work closely with the admins there to ensure data integrity. We keep additional data fields not available in supercharge.info.

How to login without becoming a competitor

This is the default configuration. You will be able to track your visits, but no other competitors or non-users will be able to see your check-ins. Only the database admin will have visibility. You will not be included on the leaderboard, you will not have a Tableau map, and you cannot collect "firsts".

Steps:
  1. Go to Supercharging.Life and select guest and then login.
  2. Select the authentication you'd like to use (Google or GitHub)
  3. Start recording your visits.
If you have questions or run into any problems, you can reach us in the following ways:
  • Contact at least three of the admins (list below) via private message here on TMC.
  • If you do not have a TMC account, you can email us at [email protected]
If you ever want to become a competitor, just contact us (as above) and ask us to make you an "active" competitor.

How to login and become a competitor

As a competitor, you will be included on the leaderboard, have a Tableau map, and be able to collect "Firsts". Your visits will be visible to others.

To use Supercharging.Life, you need either a Google or GitHub account as they perform our authentication.

Send a Private Message here in TMC to at least three of the admins below. Tell us which of the authentication mechanisms you intend to use and the email address that is associated with that login. The admins will then provide you instructions depending on whether you are an existing competitor or a new competitor.
If you do not have a TMC account, you can email us admins at: [email protected]

Process for having admins enter your visits

This system is designed to make it easy for you to enter your own visits. However, if there are extenuating circumstances where you would like the admins to enter your visits for you, post your visits to the Wiki - Superchargers Visited thread and include a specific statement that you want the admins to make the entries. You'll still be able to use supercharging.life as a guest, including accessing your entries.

Overview of key functionality

On desktop or mobile, you will be presented with a list of actions you can take. At launch, this list is as follows:

1657579528908.png

  • "Me" - shows your check-ins and other key information, like any badges you've earned. This is a simple, single-click way to access your information.
  • "Supercharger List" allows you to browse the entire global supercharger list and all of the details associated with each.
  • "Supercharger Map" puts superchargers on a map in our normalish colors: Red for open, Yellow for Construction, and Blue for permit. To ensure the map is responsive, it will only load North American superchargers by default, but you can select "Load all" if desired.
  • "Competitors" allows you to find and view a competitor's check-in record
  • "Check-in Now" allows you to create a check-in. It will show superchargers near you for easy check-in but you can also search for any supercharger if you are entering data later.
  • "Recent Check-ins" - creates a list of all of the recent check-ins from all competitors.

Competitor View

In the competitor view, you will see key metrics about yourself (or whoever you are viewing). The "Map" link will take you to an up-to-date view of superchargers for that specific competitor. Grey pins are locations they've visited. This map view pulls directly from the database. The Tableau link takes you to the competitor's view on Tableau where there is more information available and the map is more configurable. However, it is not updated dynamically so may be behind by hours or days. Tableau includes a variety of other views and tools, like the ability to see the state of the supercharger network at any point in history.

1657580265598.png

Below the competitor information are the individual check-ins. Here you can see details of each check-in by clicking the date, which also allows you to delete that check-in if you made a mistake. If you want to see details about the supercharger, click the name.

How to search the competitor or supercharger lists
On a desktop computer, when you mouse over the Region, Name, or Status headers on the superchargers list, or the Name header on the Competitors list, you will see a hamburger menu. When you select that menu, a filter selection will present itself and you can type a few characters of whatever you're looking for to narrow the list.

On mobile, long press in the heading field to pull up the search tool.

no calendar access

I just updated my Tesla MS to 2024.14.7 and now can no longer access my iphone calendar. I received the message "Enable Calendar Access" & it instructs me to allow access on my phone app.

I've turned the tesla app on and off, turned calendar access on & off in the iphone, rebooted my car, turned access via Bluetooth off & on, etc. Nothing helps.

Maybe a bug in 2024.14.7?

Tesla Model Y LR - Gearbox fluid service recommended

"Gearbox fluid service recommended DIF_a251_oilPumpService Schedule service Feb 7, 2024 10:11 AM Recently seen on 3 other vehicles”
Just noticed this alert on Tessie under Firmware Alerts. I’ve never been aware of this as a maintenance item and it did not show up on the display, only on Firmware Alerts in Tessie. Is this anything to be concerned about? Should I get it checked out at the SC?

Wondering about generator use with Solar Roof and Powerwalls

I've got a fairly simple system, Solar Roof feeding single Gateway thru two inverters, with Powerwalls. Grid power, inverters, and Powerwalls connect to Gateway, and the Gateway feeds the load center thru the 200A main breaker. It's been in operation since mid June of 2023. Grid power outages are common here, so before getting the solar system I used a generator during outages. The generator puts out a 30A 240V circuit, which feeds my load center bus thru a sub panel from the barn. I was in the habit of manually isolating from the grid to do this.

Yesterday, wind took out our power once more via downed trees interrupting the supply. The initial estimate from BGE was about 3 days for restoration, they had many outages from the large storm. I'm only generation about 12-16 kwh on a good day this time of year, so even tho I had charged my batteries to 100% before the montages I was not certain about how long an outage I could weather. It only ended up a 17 hour outage, and we didn't run the heat pump, just ran backup propane heat. Got decent sun today, and might have made 3 days or more with low use and decent generation.

But.... I began to think about running the generator. I thought of two possible ways of doing this:
1. Wait until the powerwalls go low, throw the main to isolate from the Gateway, and use generator power as before, or
2. Run the generator at night, depending on the Gateway for grid isolation, to power low-level demand and charge Powerwalls

I don't know if that second method is actually feasible. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions?
