How accurate is trade in value?

It varies. I would get other offers from Carmax, etc. so you have a better idea. If the Tesla offer saves you money on the sales tax then you trade it to Tesla, if not you sell it to Carmax, etc.

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

I get it but the auto industry is undergoing big disruption right now. The Model 3/Y are really $40k-$50k vehicles. They were just inflated by $10-$15k due to the supply chain issues. The same way people were paying $10k or more over sticker for new ICE based vehicles. Now that demand...

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

Those who have owned these vehicles a while after the instant torque honeymoon wears off will agree. I am not dogging on the car, I enjoyed both my Tesla SR+ and M3P. I since sold the M3P to get something a bit more engaging to drive but the SR+ has been a great car. We currently have about...

Used market has really taken a hit [All discussion of Model 3 Resale value]

Indeed, Carvana is in rough shape though so I am sure they are lowballing all their offers now but yes all used car pricing is starting to drop to normal levels now, including Teslas. Get some offers from a few more like Vroom, Shift, Carmax, etc. Prior to the pandemic my 2019 SR+ offer was...

Considering a Model 3 Subscription through a service like Autonomy

Yeah, if you are just itching to get the Tesla experience then I would look used. I have a 2019 SR+, which was $40k new back then minus the tax credit. These cars should really be $25k used if the market didn't go bonkers. Give it some time and you will see the RWD M3s in the low 30s. If you...

Considering a Model 3 Subscription through a service like Autonomy

I am not familiar with the Autonomy service but seems awfully expensive. You spend $8,400 to rent a used 2021 for a year? That Tesla lease looks horrible, it would cost you ~$20k to drive it for 2 years. Furthermore, you will probably need a set of tires plus any other wear and tear costs...

Poor Experience buying a Tesla Model 3

Buying a new car should be a pleasant experience, sorry to hear it wasn't for you. There are definitely pros and cons to the Tesla purchasing model. Hopefully you can put it all behind you and try to enjoy the car moving forward. No car is perfect but as you have experienced so far, the Model...

$39k Used Model 3's on Tesla Website

FWIW, here is some pricing history on my 2019 M3P. Black, white interior, no FSD, 5,700 miles. Car was $60,990 - $3,750 tax credit. January 2021 - the highest trade-in offer I could get was $42,500. FSD would only net me $500-$1000 on all the offers. IMO, the depreciation was pretty bad on...

$39k Used Model 3's on Tesla Website

It depends on the dealer. I just bought a CT4V Blackwing sitting on a lot for MSRP. Not all dealers are price gouging. Some dealers are ok selling at MSRP and willing to gain a repeat customer. We are also heading into a declining economic market and more and more EV competition is hitting...

$39k Used Model 3's on Tesla Website

As an 2019 SR+ owner who paid $36,250 brand new it is nice to see that value but I would not consider it cheap. You could buy yourself a brand new Lexus IS for $40k instead of a 3 year old car with 57k miles.
  14. R

$39k Used Model 3's on Tesla Website

When I shopped offers for my Model 3 Performance the dealers would only offer $500 more if it had FSD.
  15. R

$39k Used Model 3's on Tesla Website

Ironically, pre-pandemic used Tesla M3 SR+s were only worth $25-30k on trade-in and they were only a little over a year old. However, we were buying them for around $40k minus the $3,750 tax credit.

Have I locked in a price

So, if we look at the new Ford F-150 increases today we can probably figure where it will land. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/ford-is-almost-ready-to-take-new-f-150-lightning-orders-with-a-7-000-price-hike/ar-AA10tyqI?cvid=25e64fd0d0c947d4a9e45380b6e10ab0

Have I locked in a price

Sadly, probably higher than that considering it is still over a year away.

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

Styling, driving experience and price. Model 3 trunk space is not an issue for me and there is a frunk as well that I never use.

Unhappy with tesla trade in value - 2021

Because Tesla doesn't want the car back. They are only interested in selling new ones.

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

Nice writeup, you summed it up well. Sounds like you are addicted to cars, same here. The upcoming manual trans option in the 2023 Supra has me intrigued but then there is the new Nissan Z. 🤔

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

I am still in a transition... I have a Model 3 but I also have a performance ICE based vehicle. The Model 3 does all the daily driving. It is quick, efficient, great tech, comfortable, etc. but for some enthusiasts it lacks a lot of engagement and any sort of visceral experience, if you like...

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

I don't think that is accurate. If you search you will see reports of Hellcats running 7:51. The list here has the M3P at 9:00, which means a VW GTI is faster? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times
  23. R

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

Supposedly the 2017 SRT Hellcat did a 7:51 around the ring stock. I would imagine the newer wide-body models with improved suspension, 305 rubber on all corners and the Redeye gets 797hp could put down an eve better time. They are heavy but the newer wide-body suspension handles the weight...

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

I owned a C7 Corvette Grand Sport, Tesla M3P, Camaro ZL1 and a Miata ND. IMO, the Miata is the most fun to drive on the street. 2300lbs, top goes down and you can wind out the gears on the street without risking your license. ;) It is just tough to live with as your only car.
  25. R

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

I think there will always be a percentage of enthusiasts that will long for that visceral feel you can only get from a high performance ICE based vehicle. I hope manufacturers can find way to make EVs more engaging to drive but that doesn't seem to be the case so far. I am sure when Dodge...

    Model Y 2021 Purchase

It is annoying for sure but Homelink is starting to disappear from other manufacturers models as well. The trend is toward garage door openers that are WiFi enable so you can open them via an app on the phone or even use voice commands. Otherwise grab the trusty opener and clip it to the visor...

Lease ending in 1 year, looking to stay with Tesla. What is the prodecure?

Yep, some leases are great, some not so great. No one had a crystal ball 3 years ago but in hindsight this is one car that was better to own since Tesla never allowed the buyer the option to buy the car at the end of the lease. FWIW, the resale value of my Tesla M3 Performance pretty much...

Mobile Connector no longer included with new cars [posted 04/16/2022 - Tesla confirms adapter included with cars ordered before 04/17/22]

Agreed, if it is not included, make it an option when you order the car instead of stressing out all the new customers staring at an out of stock message at the Tesla online store and scrambling to find one.

Seems just a little insane -- Quickest Truck

It is strange, we have found a way to make a vehicle faster but less fun and engaging. Since going fast in an EV is relatively easy, I think manufacturers are going to have to focus on other aspects of the driving experience to appeal to enthusiasts. Sound, handling, styling, weight...

    Model 3 Performance feels slow?

Yeah, the new GR86 seems like a pretty good value for having some fun on the street and low cost track fun. I am hearing good things about new Nissan Z. 400hp twin turbo, with a manual for under $50k sounds pretty good as well. The supply challenges really sap all the fun out of things right...

Mobile Connector no longer included with new cars [posted 04/16/2022 - Tesla confirms adapter included with cars ordered before 04/17/22]

Agreed, but in my experience this is not how Tesla rolls. You get an vague Tweet from Elon then you search forums like this until you see a long thread and look for a semi official communication from Tesla service advisor. You then head over to the Tesla Online Shop where 80% of items are out of...

    Model 3 LR brakes power

Remember the early braking issue where cars were taking 152ft and then OTA update brought it down to 122ft? The interesting thing is with EVs and regen braking there is a some fine tuning that can impact the performance beyond just the tires, pads and rotors.

Yeah, lots of collaboration projects. The Supra is a BMW morph. The GR86 collab with with Subaru. How about Honda and GM building a sub $30k EV together? https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/05/gm-and-honda-to-partner-on-affordable-electric-vehicles.html

    Model 3 Performance feels slow?

I am not suggesting the M3P is a disaster by any means. The car handles extremely well for its weight. The exit out of the corner in the M3P thanks to the instant torque and AWD is fantastic. As it relates to track work though you do have to make it work like you said by finding...

I hope they survive because if you have ever dealt with these smaller brands they tend to be a real pleasure. Mazda comes to mind. I have nothing but nice things to say about working with Mazda over the years.

Mobile Connector no longer included with new cars [posted 04/16/2022 - Tesla confirms adapter included with cars ordered before 04/17/22]

Yep, I see Ford and GM for that matter going all in on EV but it will take a while before you convert the F-150 farm owner from using dinosaur juice. ;) Most of the initial F-150 Lightening trucks will be for the city dwellers with extra disposable income. Until you can tow a boat/trailer...

2018 Model 3 bricks in the turn lane

My 12v battery died but I was parked. This is disconcerting if this is how the car behaves while driving when a 12v battery dies. Did you still have power steering and boosted friction brakes?
  43. R

    Model 3 Performance feels slow?

You are right, the limits of the high powered cars are impossible to reach on the street without risking jail time. The C8 on track was actually very good, I just find it a bit subdued. The mid engine layout forced GM to really insulate the engine/exhaust note from the cabin and it is only...

Mobile Connector no longer included with new cars [posted 04/16/2022 - Tesla confirms adapter included with cars ordered before 04/17/22]

I think it depends. If Toyota were to release an EV Tacoma pickup right now, I don't think many would hesitate since they have a long history of quality and reliability.
  45. R

    Model 3 Performance feels slow?

Yeah, I would think all that instant torque would bode well on an Autocross course. The guys at the road courses complain that the Teslas overheat and can't finish a 20 minute session before needing a charge. They have a big diesel generator with all of them plugged in. Then you have the...

Mobile Connector no longer included with new cars [posted 04/16/2022 - Tesla confirms adapter included with cars ordered before 04/17/22]

You realize EVs still represent a small percentage of the overall market? Outside of Tesla Disneyland most people can’t afford an entry level Tesla starting at around $50k and the prices are only going up. We still have to solve charging for a large percentage of people who do not live in a...

    Model 3 Performance feels slow?

I had my Model 3 Performance after 2 years or so. I liked it but I started to miss the engagement and drama you get from performance based ICE vehicles. I am back in a Camaro ZL1, which destroys my Model 3 Performance in all areas except for 0-60mph. The hard AWD launch of the Tesla gets the...

Not comparing numbers. Compare the pent up demand. If Ford could produce 100k Mach Es then they would probably sell every one of them.
